Which 2005 Dakar do you have, the Dakar, Dakar Sport, Dakar Comp, Dakar XLT, ...? Confusing, eh?

Many sektors have tapered steerers today which most likely won't work with some of the Dakar's, but can be made to work with others. Those with a Zero Stack headset can be fitted with an external cup lower bearing by cane Creek which allows the larger steerer. If your model already has external bearing cups top and bottom, you need a fork with a straight 1 1/8 steerer as tapered will not fit. The Sektor Soloair has all-travel spacers to change travel from 150mm to 130mm. However, if you are looking for a Rockshox, the Recon Gold is similar to the Sektor, has the same all-travel spacers but goes from 100mm to 120mm in travel and may be a good match depending on the Dakar you have.

Sorry I should have included that....it's a xlt 3.0 and the two sektors I am looking at are 1 1/8 steerer tube with a 9mm qr.. I know my basic stuff but I'm wondering if the 150mm wil rake it out to much. I don't want to snap the head tube...

I use a 140MM 20mm Recon 351 (Sektor replaced it) on my XLT 2.0, love the way it handles. I had a 145mm Manitou Nixon last year as well, no issue with the head tube. Since the bike came with a 130mm, you should be fine at 140mm, 150mm is a jump in Geo and steering may get a bit slower.

So I take it 150mm is out of the question?

I like mine better with the 140mm, but the Sektor can go 130 - 150 so you can always lower it with a spacer (assuming that is the one you buy).
