    09 Jamis dragon post collar

I have a 2009 Jamis dragon one and broke the seatpost collar bolt and am looking to replace it. Does anyone know off the top of their head what size collar I am looking for? It is a 27-point 27.2 post. I called Jamis and they told me 28.6 would work so I bought one and it is too small. Rather than just order the next size up I was hoping someone knew off hand.

Are you looking for the collar or just the bolt? My XLT which has the same size seatpost uses a 31.8. That has been my experience with several bikes using a 27.2 - 28.6 seatpost. Everything I have or had that used 30.0 (odd I know) - 31.6 used a 34.9 clamp.

Looking for a whole new clamp since I wanted to get away from a QR. I called Jamis again and they are sending me one free since I received goofy info. Still out $26 from amazon bc I ordered a shmancy fancy Thompson clqmp

Did you end up with a 31.8 clamp?

Yes, they do. In both Sport and Pro, I think. Go to Jamis' 650b website.

Yes two levels of complete bikes and also a frame kit.

Pro is an 853 with Sram 10sp
Sport is 520 with mostly Deore

    Frame set is the 853

I own a Dragon Pro and the seat post collar size that it requires is a 30.0. I tried a 28.6 but the ID of the clamp was too small to accommodate the the OD the vertical frame tube. Thomson makes one in this size without a QR and Salsa makes one with a QR system. Both are quality products.

I've got a 2012 Dragon 650 (Reynolds 853 steel frame). Tried both a Salsa Lip Lock 30.0 and Thomson 29.8 seat collar. Still experienced slippage with these two and collar fit wasn't as snug as I preferred. Got out my caliper and measured the outside diameter of the seat tube where the collar sits: 29.5 maybe 29.6mm (non digital caliper). Ordered a DKG 29.5mm bolt on style seat collar directly from DKG (they do make a flip lock style as well). Fit is much more snug and secure. SLIPPAGE PROBLEM SOLVED!

Others have posted good luck with Salsa clamps so perhaps my seat tube diameter was under spec a bit. My advice is to measure carefully with an accurate caliper and get the exact collar size you need.

I asked the folks at Jamis and they told me 29.8. Wonder if that's too big?

I really think you need to carefully measure the outside diameter of the seat tube where the collar sits (preferably with a digital caliper) and get the EXACT size collar you need. Thomson is the only company that I know of that makes a 29.8mm collar. For my bike, that one did not stop my seat post slippage issues. Again, the DKG mountain bike collar in 29.5 completely eliminated the issue once and for all.

No way it's a 27mm seat collar. That's just there to identify it for use with a 27.2mm seatpost.

Thanks for that clarification! So the 29.8 might work, then?
