Is it possible to put a 8.75 x 2.75 shock on a 2005 IH 7Point3

Is it possible to put a 8.75 x 2.75 shock on a 2005 IH 7Point3 ? 9 x 2.75 shock is hard to find and I was wondering if anybody had successfully or if it's possible to install a 8.75 x 2.75 shock.

yes, do it! 8.75 x 2.75 is the correct size for a 7Point.

If I remember correctly, the 9" shock specced on some models was only because 5th Element was the hot shock at the time, and they did not make one in 8.75".

I have a 2006 7Point, and I believe its the same as the 2005 model. 8.75 x 2.75 is the way to go.

For 2005 the size was 9 x 2.75. I think the rocker arms might be slightly different but not certain.

If you have access to a 8.75 x 2.75 make sure you try it first without the spring or release air pressure on air shock, in order to cycle shock through its full travel to ensure no contact from tire to frame or frame to frame or front d to frame.

If it does work it would likely slacken the HA by about 1/2 a degree.

I have a side question. Could I put a 8.75x2.75 on my 6point? I want to put a coil on it but I am having a hard time finding one in a 8.75x2.5 which is on the bike now.

can I put a 7.875x2 on my mkiii? stock size is a 7.5x2 I think.

Its for a buddy, but also fits my ibis and possibly the mkiii, so i might play around with it a bit!

akuria: that size shock will work. The designer of these bikes has posted on here saying that he himself uses an 8.75x2.75 on his 6 point.

akuria - Yes as 8.75 x 2.75 fits perfectly on a 6 Point. Just make sure you have your front derailleaur adjusted properly. Best to take the spring/air off the shock and cycle through it's full range to ensure the front d does not hit the chainstay.

I rode my 6 Point with the 8.75 x 2.75 shock, worked great. Some used to call this a 7 Point Lite. From what I was told the 6 Point and 7 Point share the same rear traingle.

redmr2_man - Don't think anything bigger than 7.5 fits on the MKIII. If I remember correctly the rear triangle is fully extended when using a 7.5 shock. Borrow a shock to try it, but don't think it will work. The MK III is already pretty steep, so even if it did fit it would make the bike taller and the head angle steeper.

Uhm... yes. Did you read the second post in this thread? That is the shock that comes with the bike!

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, literally, but I'd like to change the shock on my 2005 7p3 since budget hasn't allowed for a new bike. The 05 came with 9x2.75 and I'd love if someone can confirm that 8.75x2.75 will work on the 05 with the original linkage plates without anything hitting. Since, you know, in 05 8.75x2.75 DID NOT come on the bike and I've read that you need the later linkage plates to run an 8.75" on the 05.

I've been running my 05 with an 8.75x2.75 for around 6 months now, and I have not run into any issues as far as anything hitting. I'm still running the original rocker links as well. So, yes, an 8.75x2.75 shock will work on a 2005 7point
