Smile Does 2008 MKIII ELITE for $2000 a bargain?

    Hi everybody,

Im wondering if $2000 is really a BIG bargain for this MKIII?

    Come with full XT kit,
RS REVELATION 426 DUAL AIR, REAR SHOCK FOX FLOAT R
    DT/Swiss 340 hubs and X4.2D rims,
    EA70's stem, handlebar and seatpost.
    Candy C pedal
Or I can buy similar bikes on this price?

    Thanks in advanced!

I wouldn't say its a "steal". depending on the rest of the components it may be a fair price. great bike though.

Sounds good in theory, but Iron Horse went into bankruptcy and was recently purchased by another company. I doubt that any more MkIII parts will be made by the new owner. That means that warranty supplies are limited to those already manufactured and stocked by the vendor.

Moreover, more than a few MkIII owners have had problems with broken swingarms. Look in this forum for further discussion on that matter.

If you break your MkIII frame, the vendor may indeed honor the warranty, but due to the presumably dwindling supplies, they might not be able to supply you with MkIII parts. They may have to provide you with some other frame which may or may not work well with the components on the MkIII.

The price isn't bad, but you do have to take the above into consideration.

I assume this is through Randal Scott Cycles? Do some looking around the first page of this board for more info on them and issues you may want to consider if buying an IH from them. Is the warranty through IH or RSC? If it is through RSC, I would ask about what will happen if your rear triangle cracks and they are out of replacements.

Hi guys! THX for your help! Really open minded. Already look other threads. Needto read more.
    Im in UK,
the seller said the warranty is through the UK's IH importer---Jim Walker: www.i-ride.co.uk
I dont like the shock, cuz it's float R, cant adjust the prepedal.
The original price in UK is 2500GBP, now has a price cut at 1250GBP, I thought IH is selling higher price in UK. Maybe cuz the quality bugs and bankruptcy, they will cut the half price off.

Martin can you pm the shops name & url?

I have been thinking about the same but with MKIII comp. The deal is 45% off the MRP. It's a UK dealer so no idea about the warranty, but I know a good TIG welder that could take care of the problem if it occures. So what do you guys think is this a bargain, components below:

    Iron Horse MKIII Comp 2009
Frame: 5" Travel DW-Link Trail Frame, 1-1/8" Zerostack Headtube, Replaceable Derailleur Hanger
    Rear Shock: Fox Float R
Fork: Manitou Minute Elite 140mm With Alloy Steerer
    Front Derailleur: Sram X.7
    Rear Derailleur: Sram X.9
    Shifters: Sram X.7
    Chainset: Truvativ Firex 3.3
    Chainrings: 22-32-44 tooth Chainrings
    Bottom Bracket: Truvativ Giga Pipe
Cassette: Sram PG-970 with a 11/34 tooth range. 9 speed
    Chain: KMC Z-9200
Front Brake: Hayes Stroker Trail 160mm Rotor
Rear Brake: Hayes Stroker Trail 160mm Rotor
    Brake Levers: Hayes Stroker Trail
    Handlebars: FSA XC282, 18mm Rise X 620mm
    Stem: FSA ST150XT, 6 Deg X 31.8mm
    Headset: VP A45AC Zerostack
Rims: WTB Lazer Disc XC Wheelset
Front Hub: WTB Lazer Disc XC Wheelset
Rear Hub: WTB Lazer Disc XC Wheelset
Front Tyre: WTB Wolverine 2.2 Comp Dna
Rear Tyre: WTB Wolverine 2.2 Comp Dna
    Saddle: WTB Silverado Comp
    Seatpost: Kalloy SP-600 30.0mm X 350mm

What do you think about the compenents, I have read some reviews that say that the wheels and cranks are garpage, but dunno? Some of the compenents are good, but some seem to be really low end/outdated- or am I mistaking? I could get Giant trance X4 for about the same price.

They also have 2009 6point4 -42% off. But considering I won't be doing much dh/fr so the extra weight is a turnoff.

    Sorry about my enghlish.

I think you're right. Some components are good, others not so much.

If the Giant has a warranty and comparable components, that'd be the better deal.

Depending upon the precise weight, it might still be worth considering. They are beefy bikes and should hold up for a long time.
