2008 warrior 5.5 as an xc race bike?

My brother In law has a brand new warrior 5.5 sitting in his garage. He bought it, rode it once around the block and its been sitting ever since. He is willing to sell it to me for 300$(fair price?) . I've been looking to build a light weight xc bike and it has decent specs so i thought it might be a good place to start. Can this bike be built up real light? I'd like something around 23 pounds.

You can get it down to maybe 25-28 pounds, BUT....the amount of money it would take to do that would be better spent on something else. Everything on that bike is over-built( heavy) I had a Warrior 5.0, and it was 32 pounds out of the box. After replacing all but the frame( 6.3 pounds itself) with ebay parts, i got mine down to 27.9 on the scale. So my advice....just ride it like it is. Just imagine what pushing that beast will do for your leg power!!
