I recently threw away the original shifter cable and housing from a 60's or 70's SA 3-speed hub and ordered a replacement. When I went to install it, I saw that the design has been updated. Now the cable ends at a fixing bolt and nut attached to the knurled cylinder that threads onto the indicator chain, where the old cable went through that cylinder and had a cable end (there was no fixing bolt).

This is problematic because now the cable doesn't have enough travel before the fixing bolt runs into the axle-mounted brace that holds the housing stop. I can adjust it to get gears 1&2 or 2&3, but not all 3.

A 2-speed hub isn't the end of the world, but does anybody have a clean solution? Thanks!
