Shimano M525 upgrade?

OK first off I hope this isn't too basic to be out of Beginner's Corner, if it is woopsy..

I got a second hand bike and on inspecting the hubs (Shimano M525) I found the cups, cones and bearing all have ware. Obviously I want to swap them out before it becomes a big issue, however it seams I can only by complete axial units. Meaning that it costs the same as new complete hub units. Now I'm thinking if I'm going to buy new hubs is there an other model worth upgrading to???

Consider taking it to a mechanic that specializes in secondhand / refurbished bikes. They usually have a parts bin lying around and may have the parts you need. I wore out my cup & cones on my regular hub, and they just dug through the bin until they found two more that would tide me over until I got a new hub.
