    Internal/saltwater

Does anyone have any input on using internal geared hubs for beach riding in saltwater?

I live on the beach in Homer, AK and ride my SS daily with the few other fatbike beach riders non of whom use internal hubs, so we're just wondering if internal hubs are sealed well enough against saltwater.

Ran my Rohloff in FL for a large handful of rides last winter with zero issues. I'd think daily use wouldn't be an issue but I'd rinse it off after riding with fresh water to be sure it doesn't eat away at bolts etc. I'm sure someone else will chime.

I would imagine sand is worse than salt water. I agree - a light hosing should do the trick.

maybe a more regular oil change if on a rohloff of alfine 11. You'd hopefully catch issues before they get too bad by checking the quality of the oil and any contaminents? I'd be a little shy of putting expensive gear near the beach though. Salt water has magical properties when it comes to destroying stuff.
