    IGH failure symptoms

What happens when an Alfine or Rohloff start to fail (I know it never happens with the latter but humor me)? Do they typically just stop shifting properly or do they tend to seize and stop spinning well. I'm interested from the standpoint of front to rear wheel interchangeability for a Pugsley.

The two Shimano that failed on me started by skipping under pressure.
Of the two Shimano that I had to change , both had the same symptoms.

I have my Rohloff for 7 years now ( soon to be 8 ) and it's shifting better than 7 years ago.

So it sounds like they would still have worked as a temporary front wheel on a Pugsley after switching them?
    Thanks

I don't know about Alfine, but I've never heard of a Rohloff seizing up. You might have a cable break but then you could set the gear of choice manually ( or use the gear you're in ) and ride out single speed.

But to answer your question I'm pretty positive you could switch your Rohloff to the front if needed but again I see no reason for that ever needing to happen. I'm betting you would have a better chance getting hit by lightening than having your Rohloff fail
