    Guard Plate for Alfine 8

I'm installing my Alfine 8 for the first time and the instructions call for some "guard plate" facing out when I install the sprocket. I saw no guard plate. Where does this come from? It was not included with the hub, nor was it in the small parts kit. I cannot see it for sale individually, so where do I find one? Is it needed?

And it's also missing the big metal dust cap. Unfortunately it's too late to return it.

The plate obscuring the metal of the cog in this picture? -> http://www.madisonb2b.co.uk/netalogu...os/sgs500l.jpg

Don't really need it. I've never used one.

The dust cap with the little serrations on it, between the spoke holes and the cog?

Mine's plastic, and was on the hub when shipped.

Yes, that is the one. I've determined that it's non essential.

However, underneath the cog should go a largish metal dust cap, the first piece to go on in this video.

I don't have it. It should work without it but I'd rather have a dust cap than not.

Anyways, I'm bungling my way through this, don't know where I'd be without Youtube. Thanks, don't mind my *****ing.

Hmm, well I'm doing an Alfine 8 guts swap this weekend, I'll post what I find.

Maybe I can just mail you my spare dust cap, if it's there. Seriously.

Oh I found my dust cap tucked away in another box. Don't mind me, I'm just being an idi*t.

    Haha, right on.

I do find the way Shimano organizes things to be a bit strange.
