    Budget IGH for gravel grinding?

Can someone recommend an IGH for gravel grinding to be used on a 130mm spaced track-end frame? I have looked at some of the 3 speed options on the market, but all seem to have issues with sealing..and I don't want to tear apart the hub every 2 months. Also don't have the coin for the blingy high-end hubs.

    Is there a reasonable compromise?

You can find a Handspun Wheel with an Alfine 8 spd and VeloCity Dyad Rim for around $300.

I ran one for 3+ years on a Karate Monkey with a 26x23 setup. You'd want some higher gears for a gravel grinder, though.

Plenty of mixed reviews for the Alfine's. I attribute all my success to shifting style. Not only do I NOT shift under load, I don't even spin the cranks while shifting.

The Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub has some really nice labyrinth seals that have worked successfully for high-mileage cyclists for the last 110 years. Pack the labyrinths with StaLube Marine Grease.

Is the S3X with a freewheel a viable option?
