Alfine 8-speed hub: which finish is more durable?

For the 8-speed Alfine hub which finish is more durable, silver (polished) or black (anodized)?

I don't think that there'll be any difference because the silver version is also anodised, it's not just left as the raw aluminum finish. The finish is at least as durable as any other hub - the hub shell is a very well finished component.

I wish that there was a red anodised version......

I was under the impression that the silver finish was polished rather than anodized. If anodized, then the color should not matter.

According to Thorn bikes, the silver polished finish on the Rohloff hub tarnishes after a couple of years while the anodized black and red do not.

Now you have a good reason to go for a red Rohloff.

I'm waiting for a Rolhoff fan boy to tell us there's no proof that Shimano rates the finish for exposure to mud and salt, only Rolhoff will do

Pursuiter , where is that link of the 10% failure rate again ?

    To OP:
I had a black and silver and I haven't seen much difference.

    polished

I prefer the polished look, esp. on a black frame. I have a belt driven model from beltdrivebike.com the rd2.0 model
    I'm so happy with it.:thumbsup
