Alfine 8: service it or leave it alone

I have an alfine 8 that has been in service for 3 seasons of XC duty. This bike sees maybe 200 miles per year. This hub has been an install it and forget about it part thus far. I am not having any issues with shifting. Should I tear into it and give it an oil bath, or just leave it alone until it starts acting up?

I don't know if you should, but it might not be a bad idea to wigggle the rim from side to side to see if you need to tighten your cones. You should need to do the left one only, which is easy.

Pulling the hub apart is actually really easy too. It all depends on how adventurous you are. I did mine two winters back, and all is good. I've had the hub since the spring of '09.

My Alfine 8 after 4yrs of never being serviced in my fatbike:

I did tighten the hub once in that time, but beyond that it was just used without a second thought.
    Safe riding,
