    Alfine 8 help

My alfine 8 on my pugsley started skipping occasionally in 1st gear so I disassembled it and did the ATF oil bath deal with new grease. Everything looked fine, no obvious signs of wear. Now it skips frequently under load but only in 3rd gear, also doesn't shift as clean as it did before service. The hub is under a year old, ridden 10-30 miles a week fairly hard singletrack, 32x22 gearing. This is my 2cnd alfine, the 1st ground itself to bits after a year and half or so- admittedly I beat on it pretty hard and performed zero maintenance on the 1st one. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

If its less than a year old see if the LBS you bought it from can get it replaced under warranty.

No LBS, I bought the hub on ebay (new) and built the wheel myself.

You can try contacting Shimano directly and asking for help. You may be out of luck depending who you bought it from on EBay.

Aaron's is the only place I can think of that could service a Shimano IGH:

    Internal Gear Hub Service

Given the cost of the A8 it may not be worth the effort.

I've had no issues with the 2 A8's in my Pugsleys over 5yrs, but if you are damaging them regularly you may want to cut your losses and either try a more robust IGH or head back to derailleurs.
