What is the true Carbine 275 BB height with a Fox 34 150 and a Fox 34 160

Has anyone measured the true BB height with a Fox 34 at 150? The website says 13.7, but I thought I read somewhere that someone measured it at 14 even. Also has anyone measured it with a 34 set at 160mm?

I have my Sultan up for sale and I'm trying to decide between the Mojo HD with 650b wheels and the Carbine 275.

    Thanks in advance.

It definitely depends on your wheel/tire setup, but standard XT build kit bikes we sell come out to about 14" even.

Thank you. I was hoping it would be closer to 13.7, but that is still lower than the HD.

The truth is, for either bike, you can play with shock pressure to dial your bike's geometry. Within reason. Fox forks and shocks are designed around 25% sag, but if your BB is a little too high or low, adjust sag + or - 5% and you'll have exactly what you want for geometry. I wish the bike companies would list geometry legit to 25% sag.

I had 650B on the HD 160mm and tried running 30% sag and the BBwas about 14.25w fox 36 at 160 and Hans dampf 2.35 in front and Addent 2.25 (biggest tire that fits comfortably on both the HD and Carbine275 by the way)

The Carbine was about 13.75 with same wheels and tires as above w fox 36 set at 150mm so 14 sounds right at 160mm.

I did not like the high BB combine with the anit squat fo the HD, the carbine VPP settles in the travel more so it "feels" lower.

Thanks motoguru. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I loved the Mojo classic that I had before the Sultan that I am selling. I want something in between but with slacker geo. It looks like the Carbine is the way to go. I have never ridden VPP (I have had DW link bikes since my 2003 Iron Horse), so I am a little leery on that, but it seems to get great reviews.

Wow, my regular Carbine with 2.3 Eskar/ 2.25 Maxxis Advantage is at 13.3 or so (IIRC) with a Revelation 150. A 14" BB seems really high, and I really like how the bike carves right now.

My Carbine 275 with a Revelation, Flow EX and Nobby Nics was right at 13.8. I changed to a Fox Talas 150 (32 stanchions) for 26" wheels and the BB height stayed the same. I put in some Burgtec offset bushings and now it's at 13.3" and I'm loving it! It is more slack, but that was easy to get used to and great for the steeps. I haven't noticed any difference in the rear suspension.

the offset bushing might be the one that I am looking for. Converted my Tracer 2 to 650b with Fox float 36 and the BB height is around 14.5 . Anybody knows the mounting hardware specs for a 2011 T2 with Fox RP23? Thanks!

I wouldn't get too caught up in the exact BB height numbers - my T2 with 650b setup sits at 14.25 in static position, but with proper sag and the way VPP works it does not feel top-heavy at all. This was a big concern for me before I converted, but was very happy it was a non-issue. I've had several rides now including a few fast, bumpy, twisty, light DH style runs and the way this thing handles is freaking awesome - really can get in the bike and drive it hard - super fun setup.

Sorry cisco -I thought I had a hardware spec sheet somewhere but can't find it. Sam might be able to help you with that.

    Smile T2 Height

Thanks Trojan. Looks like the measurements for T2 is:

    Mounting hardware measurements - 24.6mm x 6mm & 29.94mm x 6mm

Here's my T2+75 , hopefully the offset bushing will bring down the BB height to around 14. Both my regular Carbine and CarbineSL are around 13.25 which I am already fond of.

Since starting this thread, I bought a Carbine 275. Best bike I have owned. The BB height has turned out to be a non-issue. With proper sag, the bike does not feel top heavy at all. While riding, I can't tell that it has a static BB that is higher than what I had on my previous bike (Turner Sultan). Mine measures 13.9" with a Fox 34 at 150 and a 2.35 NN on the front and a 2.25 NN on the rear.

I'm perplexed. My BB height is nowhere near under 14", and I'm running nearly the same setup as tortfeasor. Are you guys measuring to the center of the BB spindle/axle or the bottom? I'm measuring to the center.

Hmmm. Last time I saw that much variation in BB heights it was on the v3 El Guapo from Planet X/On One. Seems odd.

I know tire, fork, and headset choices will make a difference but I wonder if there's some variability in the 27.5 conversion drop outs.

Cisco - Bike looks great, glad to see I'm not the only one out there that took the leap. Nice selection of rides you have put together.

tortfeasor - Congrats on the new C275 and good to hear you like it - proper suspension setup is the key for sure.

Not sure why the variation in different BB heights, I think it's just a combination of different setups and measuring techniques.

    2.35 Nob Nic front, 2.2 NN rear, RockShox Pike 150mm- A-C 542mm,
    BB 13.7.

Actually it is 13.6" in 6" mode. I originally measured it in 5.5" mode.

Thanks for all the info guys! Intense has long had discrepencies in their claimed specifications, and you never know what's going to be wrong.

It can be difficult to measure actual BB height, since even a slight lean of the bike can easily turn into 1/4" inch of increased/decreased measurement.

Nonetheless, there seems to be a bunch of these showing up near 14" or more. Although BB heights of the early AM bikes were that far north a decade ago, my personal preference is for heights a bit lower (closer to 13.5"). Someone made a mention of comparing to monster trucks and their ability to go over rocks. While that may be a great analogy, we also know that monster trucks don't turn as well.
May the air be filled with tires!

Throttlemire... Got any pic's of your shock setup? How's the clearances around the shock mounts? Looks like it might be pretty tight?...

Santa Cruz nomad has a 14" bottom bracket and is still considered on of the best all mountain bikes around
