I bought another works red SlopeStyle as well. Althought this one's a small for my fiance, though. I guess this means that she's not going to get a Tracer to replace the 5.5. Now the question is, do I build up a new bike more DH worthy, or do I swap most of the parts over from the 5.5 and make this her all-mountain/XC bike? Damn impulse buys....

The time varies on what the item is. Sometimes, they only post an item for 20 minutes. Other times it's 30 or so. But for items like this, they only have a limited number of items available so it's a first come, first serve deal, so you have to act fast. Like Orange Goblin, I acted fast without much thought (although I had been casually thinking of getting my girlfriend either a Tracer or a SlopeStyle). I got the only small works red SS they had available this time around. They'll likely be doing this again, so you have to keep watching.

But seriously whats going here? I don't think I'd be real pumped about this if I were an intense dealer.

Agreed. I was at an Intense shop last night talking about getting my gf an SS at 10% off retail - the chainlove deal sure beats that! Just the same, any Intense dealer can sell things for less if they want to make less profit per unit.

Nonetheless, fortunately, I'm an Intense customer and not a dealer - sure is a great time to be a customer!

Actually, they can't! From what I know this was one of the reasons Intense pulled dealerships from a bunch of online shops. Undercutting local dealers . And if chainlove didn't get better deals on frames than a regular LBS they must be losing money on the frames they sell.

My guess is that chainlove is getting a better deal than the other dealers because they agreed to buy out all the leftover inventory (over 130 SS frames, plus over 30 6.6's, etc) and probably have an agreement to buy large amounts of future inventory.

Bingo! I agree with you 100%, they're not losing money and I'm sure they have approval from Intense.

Bl00dy hell, re-checked the exchange rate last night, and it turns out my iMac exchange app had the rate totally wrong, so the deal wasn't as awesome as i thought, especially after import tax and postage to UK, so i cancelled my order....!!

Seems a waste, but still felt good to ave been quick enough, ha ha!!!!

I just received my SlopeStyle from Chainlove, and I'd say that it's the same as any other Intense. The bottom bracket threads are cut prior to welding, and the head tube appears to be reamed and faced with very dull tools. If you're in doubt that they did the work, the frame and bottom bracket are usually still full of the aluminum shavings. Other than blowing out the aluminum shavings and cleaning them out of the BB threads, the frame is ready for assembly. (Sorry Paul.)

Thanks for the response. Even if they appear to be prepped do you suggest I have it done anyway? Also what should I look for to determine if it was prepped?

    It's prepped.

You'll know because you'll likely find aluminum shavings all over inside the tubes (mostly the bottom bracket from when they reamed the seat tube). Keep in mind that the seat tube and head tube are reamed after it's painted, so you'll see that these tubes are freshly cut. As mentioned, the bottom bracket is CNC'd prior to welding, so it's good to go. You may see the BB threads covered with paint, but that's ok - the threads are good despite the paint.

Another improvement Intense has made was to the disc brake mounting tabs. On all of my previous Intense frames (another SlopeStyle, M3, and UZZI VPX) with bolt-on dropouts, I had to slightly file the holes so the bolts would go in; this frame came pre-reamed, and the bolts go right in.

I won't be using a 12 mm axle on this bike, but the others have required a little filing to make the Hadley 12 mm axle fit properly, so keep that in mind if you go that route. They don't require nearly as much filing as my M6 dropouts did.

No, the frames aren't prepped. Prepped is chasing the BB threads and making sure everything fits. I find it ridiculous that I had to chase BB threads and file my dropouts on a ~$2400 frame. Oh yeah, and the rear end is 5mm too wide. For parts that are made in house, you think they'd have better QC.
Plan on paying a shop to do you BB, just like every other Intense.

I also had to re-do the BB shell threads, but the headtube was perfect. I wasn't impressed with having to do the BB shell, and it needed alot doing. Paying UK prices too...

I still love the frame though, just kills the "new frame" buzz slightly.

What is that bag of stuff that came attached to the frame for? It was like four silver washers and a bunch of rubber black U-shaped things? I figure the black things are four cables?

Something else went wrong. From what I believe, as soon as you hit "add to cart" you basically have it on hold.

False. The transaction has to go all the way through for you to get it.

This is what is in stock and most of it will eventually show up on Chainlove, with various size/color runs showing up in batches:

I am guessing you are in Quebec (same as me). How much were the taxes and what method of shipping did you use?
As for the warranty, I contacted Intense and their reply was that we would need to go through the shop we purchased it from and the US distributor. If we were to get lucky, Intense said that the Cdn distributor, if they felt like it, could do warranty for us.
I am guessing that if there was anything, then we would end up having to send it back to the US.

mine should be delivered today. i bought one when it wasn't up on chainlove. i went to the backcountry outlet and put one in my cart at 1695. when i went to my account the price had been adjusted to 1210. they also had ups worldwide express less than standard to canada. i paid and the didn't ship for close to a week. i think they were trying to piss me off so i would cancel my order as the shipping charges to canada were screwed up in my favour. i had them ship to a friend in the states for free and that sped things up. she'll be bringing it up next weekend so i ended up savingon the shipping too. i would have been pissed if they wouldn't have honoured the shipping price as my card was charged and invoice sent. it worked out for me better shipping to my friend

I'm from Quebec. I choose Expedited worldwide (curiously cheaper than standard ) . Expedited include brokerage fees. I pay the GST and the PST +-150$ . COD! If you live near of the border freeport forwading may be an alternative.

Waiting on parts...it's killing me! New rotor, brake adapter, 12mm axle, wheelset, and front derailleur. Of course mostly coming from different places. Even though I couldn't ride it anyway, everything here is frozen/ice/mud/snow. Gah.

I want to finish it NOW.

Ha, I am still waiting for the frame. The UPS tracker says it should arrive on Tuesday. The only thing I am going to need are a new headset and a fork as I am transferring everything from my old bike.
I am not sure if I am going to go with a 1.5 or 1 1/8 steerer tube and the corresponding headset.

Frame arrived last week and to my surprise, I didn't end up paying any taxes or import fees.
That makes the purchase and even better deal.

    qbert2000 and snoroqc,

Were you as lucky as I was or did you have to pay some fees? A friend just received his Sunday and had to pay $230 in taxes and duties.

Always been a total chance wether or not you pay taxes, they can't check everything that comes through, it'd be crazy!! Seems you got lucky. Nice!

I ordered one last week but still have not got a tracking number. Logging into my account on Chainlove still has a blank area under "tracking" ????

Dealers ought to just start buying these frames off Chainlove. As an employee at a shop that deals Intense, I can tell you they didn't offer this deal to all their dealers...definitely a bum deal for local businesses. Oh well, my guess is they need to get rid of these things to make way for the Uzzi. I don't think the slopestyle will be around too much longer, which is a bummer cuz the Uzzi isn't quite as cool of a bike IMO. Seems to be following in Santa Cruz's footsteps with the Driver 8 and steep head angles. 67.5 at the slack setting for the Uzzi?? 69 at the steep setting??? Cmon guys, get with the times! At least you can slack out the SS to 66 with a 180mm fork. I really hope they don't ditch the SS...that's the sweetest bike they've made IMO.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. I just got my CL SS and it is old stock/blemish frames. No grease ports at the lower pivot, welded on ISCG mounts, and some of the finish work is not what I would expect had I been paying full retail. I guess you could say the "Works" finsih is extra "worked".

With any good deal there is a catch. Looking forward to riding it though.

We've already had two people come into our shop with their CL slopestyles, and both were brand new frames with grease ports and the updated ISCG tabs...
