    Shifting issues with the M9???

Any inherent shifting issues with the M9??

I've tuned plenty of bikes over the years and it's not rocket science but for some reason, I can't get things shifting properly on this one!

    Here's what I have:

    -Saint M810 crankset
-Saint M810 rear derailleur (short cage)
    -Saint M810 shifter
    -New scram 9 speed chain
-Shimano HG80 9 speed cassette (don't remember how old, doesn't look bad).

It's almost like I can get the higher gears (smaller rings) to shift fine but the lower gears (larger rings) will shift like crap. And vice versa, I can get the lower gears to shift well but the higher gears will have shifting problems.

-Chain hesitating, chain trying to climb up or down a cog, or the chain not moving when shifting up or down and making noise...etc.

I can't see it being the shifter but anything is possible. Maybe the shifter isn't indexing properly from gear to gear.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Please don't take this as a patronizing suggestion given you stated you have tuned many bikes, but have you tried adjusting the derailleur hanger with the likes of a Park Tools Dag-2 or similiar? The issue you describe sounds like a classic malaligned hanger.

Also- is the derailleur tweaked at all?

The derailleur is new. My last saint derailleur was so slack and worn out, it would almost extend into the spokes. Plus it didn't work all that well anymore.

The dropout 'may' be off but it would be very very slightly. I actually just started messing around with that small conversion plate on the derailleur. According to the Shimano pdf's, it looks like I should be using it. I removed it and things work now. I'll keep an eye on it.
