"Official" Intense Spider 275 Pic and Info Thread

I'm currently awaiting mine which is due in the next month or so, so I thought I would create a thread to post our setups on.

Here are the parts I've picked for mine and I will post some pics as soon as I get the bike, this will be my 8th (or is it 9?!) Intense and one I've been hoping they'd build for a while!

Intense Spider 275 - Size Large
    Cane Creek Inline
    Marzocchi 350 NCR 140mm
    Shimano XT brakes 200/180
    SRAM XO1/XX1
    Rockshox Reverb 150 Stealth Connectamajig
    Raceface Turbine 35 Stem 50mm
    Raceface Next SL bars
Raceface Next SL Cinch Cranks 32T (I have a set of Hope Purple Cranks on order but not sure if they'll ever make them or if they will be as nice as my RF)
Hope Tech Enduro 27.5 SP wheelset in purple with matching top cap, seat collar and Deity Valve Caps
    Hope Headset
    Bontrager Montrose Elite Saddle
    Bontrager SE3 2.20 Rear, SE4 2.35 front tyres

I can't wait, I keep looking at the parts I have waiting and keep getting so excited!

Just found this vid on the Intense Bombers Facebook page, looks like a fairly burley DH run on the Spider 275.

I can't believe the lack of excitement about this bike, it really looks the business. I guess people realize that Intense announces and then deliveries can take a while.

Very interested to hear your thoughts JustJ, lucky b....

Ha ha thanks! Yeah I'll definitely post my thoughts up.

I think you either get this bike or you don't. It hasn't got the "E" word anywhere near it in the sales bumpf so that will possibly be a reason why too.

For Colorado riding, I would take the Spider 275 for everything but lift assist and Moab trips. Those short *ss stays and shorter travel will beg to be boosted off everything. Just have to pay the price by leaning forward more on climbs and slamming the front wheel down more in the turns.

The T275 will be faster down if you are looking to set Strava's, but the Spider rider will arrive with a larger smile, based on my paper/e-test ride. I am pretty sure my paper test ride would bear itself out.

Edit: And its not getting much press because its aluminum, IMHO. This thing comes out in carbon, you will hear a lot more about it.

I really wanted an alloy Intense because it's what they do best, I'm done with carbon for now based on experiences elsewhere but yeah you are right, most people expect carbon these days. But I bet that will happen at some point, just not for me.

Bingo.....Carbon is Gucci whereas aluminum is the steel of yesteryear. I think it will be a great frame. It's introduction made me consider the Intense Spider as my next ride.

Curious about it, but 7.5lb short travel frame is not exactly a point for excitement. Wonna see how it will come out and if good, wait for carbon version.

Suren I do get whole mini DH concept and frame needed to be sturdy, but not 7+lb sturdy.
I used to run tubes like you are, but then I got thorn in my wheel.

One the the best bikes I've owned had short travel and it's frame weighed over 7lbs, it was a Santa Cruz Nickel and was an absolute blast. I'm hoping for similar things from the Spider.

Here are some pics of the first Spider in the UK kindly loaned to me by my local Intense dealer and Extra who are the UK's Intense Distributor. 😃

Quick first impressions are that the colour is fantastic although my pics don't do it justice, it's as well made as Intense's always are but the foundation build is heavy at just over 32lbs with my pedals and GPS.

I'll be riding it tomorrow morning so hopefully I'll be able to get a good feel for the bike and let you know my thoughts...

    My first impressions

Please bear in mind that I only had a limited time on the bike today, a little over 12 miles over 3 hours or so, the bike needs to go back to the distributor tomorrow otherwise I'd have planned on riding it tomorrow too.

So the bike is heavy with the foundation build and uses a pretty basic rear shock, this becomes apparent when peddling up hills, but I'm impressed as it's still clear that this bike is a very good climber.

The bike is a size too small for me but it still felt long enough to be fairly comfortable but the large will feel better for me.

I love the way the bike feels when stamping on the pedals whilst standing up l, it just firms up and gets the job done, with my build kit this thing is going to be a rocket.

On wide, open rocky chunder the 27.5" wheels are never going to bang through things like a good trail 29er can (I'm comparing it to a SB95c) but I'm beginning to accept these trade offs and in all fairness it felt better than my old Tracer 275 at handling my benchmark but if trail that I like to test these things out on. I was still able to take advantage of the bike on the bits of trail that suit me and that I normally enjoy most on my 29ers. However, where it wins hands down is where you'd expect it to, this thing simply rules on the twisty, tight downhills that my woods are littered with. Soaking everything up and feeling like you're brain is kind of connected to it directly. In short it feels awesome!!

I'm not going to bore you any longer, I didn't ride it long enough to say much more plus the conditions today were mainly mud after the recent snow thaw, so weren't ideal, but I like the bike and I'm glad I have one on order as I'm pretty certain that mine will be everything I'm looking for from my next bike. 😃

Thanks JustJ, thanks for the brief tease and confirmation. So she sprints great between features or twists and then it gets the nip and tuck on huh. Berms, natural or otherwise, are a dream I suspect.

Nice picture at the gate, colour stands out. Good one. cheers W

Well this is the Tracer 275 that I owned last year. I prefer the way the Spider pedals yet is still able to get rowdy when needed. The Tracer, to me, felt a bit less keen to pedal so I often chose my Yeti SB95c to ride over it. Although the Tracer was a hoot on the DH. I've also spent a bit of time on the Tracer T275 carbon and that seriously is the best thing I've ever had on the downhills although again it's peddling performance wasn't up to the Spiders.

So in short, yes I'd personally buy a Spider over a Tracer 275 because it suits my riding better.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm currently on a Tracer 275, and it's more bike than I need/use so the Spider 275 sounds like the right style bike for me.

I tried out a 5010 yesterday and am trying to find a Transition Scout to try out.

Yeah the Scout is such a cool looking bike too and they've really got the quality dialled on it, it was second on my list of 27.5" bikes with the 5010 third.

The Banshee Phantom, Evil Following and Transiton Smuggler were the 29ers in contention. I'm keeping my 29" wheels and Pikes just incase one of them happens to find its way into my garage once I sell my Yeti! LOL

If anyone is looking for a spider and want to be taken care of give Antonio a call at DG Cycles in Glendora,Ca. Looks like he just got a foundation build in. http://instagram.com/p/zS_YEqFoaQ/

Curious if they will do a carbon build of this bike.

Yes they will. Actually an exciting time with the Intense product, they announce that there is a new bike coming every 6 months. Expect something new in April and again at the end of the year. My bet is a carbon one of these for Sea Otter.

good thread - and just saw this frame at my lbs - it is way better looking in person and i have yet to see a pic capture it. that frame is silly light and that paint job is like a matter finish - it feels like a carbon frame to the touch. i think this is gonna be a winner for Intense. I like the way they updated the linkage and underbelly - really clean now. If i had the $$ for another bike - this one checks all the boxes

I currently ride a SC Butcher converted to 27.5 with Conti Trail King 2.4 tires. Need the high volume tire for my area. I am going to buy a Spider or Tracer; cant seem to find any info on tire fitment. Also are the decals peelable? as in on top of powder and not burried under clear coat....

Thanks in advance for your sharing

The Spider 275 has decent tire clearance out back. I'm running Ibis 741 rims with Maxxis Minion DHF 2.3's and the clearance is pretty good with that combo. As for the stickers, they are removable.

if you buy the works raw finish then there is definitely no clear coat over the decals

There's no clear coat on the orange either.

I'm interested in the tyre clearance as I'll be running Zelvy Carbon 40mm rims with hopefully 2.35 Bontrager XR4's.

Can't wait to see my Frame, maybe the next week (i live in France)
Does every frame set came with the Cane Creek shok or it's an upgrade ?
I'm 1,83 m tall, is it possible to use 150 mm dropper post with the Large size ?

    Thanks !

From what I understand, all frames come with the CC DB Inline shock. I am right at 6ft tall and I am using the 150mm reverb, so I think you should be fine.

i have no ride report to share. i drove all over las vegas to see one in person. one of the fellas say it can fit a big maxxis. i am going to call them monday and ask id Conti tk 2.4 or schwable damf 2.35 fit in the rear. that is my deal maker/breaker. i was told that there is a raw version that will be available.

    Ordinarybikes:
what do you think of it with 140mm 36? is it enough suspension to get rowdy? lastly was that a mojo package frame swap?

The 140mm 36 is awesome. I had the fork set at 160mm when it was on my T275C. With the Spider, I can't say that I miss the extra travel. This bike is definitely more playful. The bike still feels really plush. No Mojo swap, as I had these parts on my T275C. I really like the Ibis wheels.

What frame size? I'm not a weight weenie but that seems a little on the portly side for top shelf parts

"Official" Intense Spider 275 Pic and Info Thread

I cancelled my Trek Remedy 9.9 (which would have landed in March) for the Spider, I don't think my conscience would let me cancel again as the shop I buy my bikes from is owned by a friend of mine. They have a Scout that I could have been riding for the past 6 weeks. I have a Turner Burner on its way to me at the moment so we'll see how well it rides over the next 5 days before making a decision.

Signed frames for loyal customers is RAD!!! With Intense's slogan "Intense for life", I think it would be a really cool idea for them to reward "lifers". Some of us have stayed on Intense for many years and purchased several bikes from Intense. I, for one, have purchased 9 Intense bikes over the years. People in my home town think I work for them or am sponsored because they don't think anyone would buy so many expensive bikes. I have always enjoyed the "Intense culture" and liked the direction that Jeff Steber has taken this company over the years. Maybe if I send them pics of all of the Intense bikes that I have owned over the years, they might do something special for me too.

Ha ha Sam is going to wish he didn't say I could post these pics when I asked him if it was OK!

I am definitely an Intense For Lifer, I remember buying my first Tracer FSR when I was 20, couldn't believe how good it was compared to pretty much anything out there. Then when I won the name the new bike (Tracer Vp) competition and got the first large (again raw) frame for my efforts I couldn't believe it. Always such an awesome cool company to deal with.

I have only had four Intense's, along with Mountain Cycle, Dean, Schwinn, Trek, Specialized, Yeti and Ellsworth. Intense still has been my go to brand for the most part. I need to step up my game on Intense ownership based on the two posts above before they would even consider spitting on one of my frames, nevertheless taking the time to sign one.

LOL, I know how that feels with the people in town. Maybe always get the same color so it isn't that obvious?
So you guys still own all your Intense bikes you ever purchased? It is "Intense for Life" after all.

No, but I wish I could have afforded to keep all of them. Funny thing is, my brother bought my uzzi vp from me a few years back and I just bought it back from him to be a thrasher bike park bike. My other brother has my old carbine as well. And because I am one of very few people around here that ride a Intense, others have seen it and have converted to Intense. They really do need to be seen to be fully appreciated. This is a problem for the local bike shop that says that they sell them because they cant afford to stock them due to the high price point for this local area.

Nope unfortunately not but in the Tracer FSR's case I've had 3 of the suckers because I kept missing them each time they'd go.

    Bummer! I do.

    @Ridnw/bear:
Yeah, you are right, they need to be seen in full flesh to be appreciated. The LBS in the previous town I lived in asked me a couple of times to bring in my bikes to show them to potential customers. Worked I guess as they always treated me well.

That's the bike that influenced my decision to buy an Intense but it still took me 5 or 6 years to buy my first Spider. One of my good buds in Boulder brought a fleet of his bikes to one of our sales meetings in Vail. On the last day we were together riding in Vail I jumped on the Tracer FSR and that was a (WTF) WOW moment. I only own two now both Spiders, the 29 VPP and the Comp. I love, love my Spiders!

I've owned Schwinn's, CCM, Specialized, Kona, Treks, Waterford, Giant, Iron Horse, Pivot and FTW bikes.

I've been talking to Ian at Chromag (I'm working a deal on the BZA stuff for my '14 Spider Comp build) and I'd be very, very tempted to buy one of his BC made steel bikes because I love good steel bikes and I've got two custom made, one off steel bikes in my Fleet!!

I still own the best of the bikes above in my current five bike fleet but I'm an Intense'r for life now!
