    Teton Valley/Jackson Info

It seems this stuff comes up as much as SV/Sawtooth threads, it would be a good compendium resource, IMO.

I can help populate and moderate it, if that is an option.
Here is a great list of resources to start:

This is a local rider's project, already excellent
    Teton MTB

Local Teton Valley, Idaho trail group website, lots of solid info here.
Welcome to Teton Valley Trails and Pathways

My own open Facebook page with local trail building info and other scuttlebut
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/112009195556789/

Teton Pass shenanigans and doings, straight from the dudes makin' it HAPPEN
    Teton Freedom Riders

Thriving scene going on at Grand Targhee, check into it as the season comes. Lots of lift served DH and XC heaven
Grand Targhee Resort | Ski Vacation | Alta, WY

lift served 'mini-golf' DH-lite trails at the Village, check it when summer comes
    http://www.jacksonhole.com/

    More to come!

    Teton Valley news!
The Wydaho Rendezvous festival (100% non prof. Fundraiser for Teton Valley Trails And Pathways) will be held over Labor Day weekend in 13'. More to come, but we really want to build this event, and this time seems to work well with other regional events.
We will have demos, rides, camping, food, races, fun races, clinics, music, tons o' beer, and lots lots more!

Any trail recs for teton valley/jackson area memorial day weekend? Camping near palisades so should have good access in either direction. Very much open yet? We're looking for a couple 2-3 hr rides, if they're around. thanks guys

Where in the Palisades area are you going to be?

Fall Creek has a couple loops (west of Swan Valley across the river)
    South Fork Bench trail

Kelly Canyon towards Ririe has a bunch of trails and is riding really well right now, Sunday morning or Monday morning would be the best times (avoid Saturday afternoons up there due to the moto crowd)
    Snake River Mountain BIke Club

Teton Valley, ID: Horseshoes, Aspen, Rush Hour are good to go.

faip22thedoc If you don't mind the drive to Jackson. I rode West Game creek and Wilson Canyon last night via putt putt. 14 miles took 3 of us at a conversation pace 3hrs. Wilson canyon was sweet, rolls right through the burn area from last years fire. Colors on the ground contrasting the burn area is crazy. Just Cache to Game creek is fun and shorter if you've never done it.

Conditions are HERO PRIME on most trails under 8000 feet currently. Cache>Game>West>Ferrins was stupid good tonight, and the FS is already hard at work improving things. I hear all of Horseshoe is prime on the other side, as well as the Mike Harris loops.
Not sure about Phillips Ridge/etc, anyone with 1st hand?
    It's on!

Thinking about diverting from our Moab trip to Jackson the third week of June. What are the chances that Lithium will be ride-able top to bottom?

I like your chances for third week. It may be close though. There were a couple inches of new snow put down on the pass this morning. I rode Lithium's neighbor Black Canyon 3rd week last year no problem. Snow melt is a little faster this year IMO. These guys have been doing a trail report.

Even if Lithium isn't a total go, everything else will be rippable, I reckon'. Maybe not all of Targhee, though.

Thanks guys. One more question, last time I was there I just camped in Grand Teton NP with the family. However, since this is a guys trip, are there any good BLM style camp areas around Jackson?

    Trail update from Teton Valley:

Mill Creek is good to go up to the lightning ridge saddle (top of the new Colter's Escape trail), just a few patches of snow on Saturday which are probably gone by now. The new Peaked trail, Lightning loop and Lightning connector all still looked snowy.

Heard the S. Horseshoe is good except for one patch of snow at the top, and that Corral is good, but top of Red has a good bit of snow.

Looks like a warming week which should really open things up, Mid June we should be mostly good to go.

Rode up 38 special (new trail w/38 switchbacks on Peaked) and then over to the top of Colter's, bad call, still plenty of mud and snow. Give it another week.

Hearing reports of bears on both Rush Hour and Mill Creek, don't forget the bear spray.

    Local events, 2013
Snow King is hosting a three race series this summer, with the first one being a 'short track' Enduro format. Basically, this means that the uphill sections aren't timed, so the best bike handlers an win over the best peddler! More to come, but the first event will be on July 14th, the same day as a free Steve Earl concert at the base! So, beers, bikes, music.

Targhee is hosting the Pierre's Hole 50/100 on the 13th, I believe.
    I'll try and find links.

I have some air miles to burn and free time but not a lot of spare cash. Would it be feasible to fly into JAC, get a ride into town, rent a 29er and head to the mtns for a few days of camp-touring?

I see that The Hub bikes rents bikes and kid trailers, so hypothetically I could pedal to the trailhead / campsite, set up camp then go exploring.

I'm just not familiar with the roads and distances involved to the good riding areas.

    thanks

Yesterday was in the 70's (60's after dusk) with fresh tacky dirt, so I went and rode this for the first time in a while. I forgot what a ridiculous climb this is! Used 22/36 a LOT. But oh, so worth it.
Topped out at 8:30 (but not done climbing)

Fataggie, check out Teton MBT website.

If anyone is in town reading this, we are having a casual dig day today at snowking, basically starting a quasi-DH type trail for an upcoming race. We will be on the East side of the hill from 4-8 pm, good times, good folks!

Wendell is that you on this ride? Added to the bucket list. Guess it needs to be soon before the sanitation crew get hold of it.

Impy, I think this is Dana, the developer of the TetonMBT site.
I don't think it will be sanitized soon, just judging from budgets and volunteerism realities right now.

In Snow King News, Some great volunteers came out last night, thanks! We have the beginnings of a new, fun DH/ (flow?) trail started, it's gonna take time, but will be FUN.
    Here are some pics!
Local celebrity, Andrew Whitford came out to dig!

Jesse, on the first big turn

Snow King GM Ryan, getting dirty

    Race the alpine sliders!

More dig days to come. This is going to open up a great new option when coming off the Hagen or finishing sink or swim as well...

Looking for some local advise on a few trails to rip for our trip to Jackson second week of August? Would prefer technical DH rides rather than XC but dont mind pedaling to the top but can probably shuttle also. Also any recommedations for a good camping spot?
    Thanks, Brett

Thanks for the advice, Looks like we will try finding a spot off Teton Pass, it looks like from a couple maps I found of the area their is a dirt road heading north from Phillips trailhead that I could go down and possibly find a spot? also that same dirt road looks that it could be used to shuttle phillips canyon rather than going back up the hiway?

If you use this site, plug in "Wyoming" to the search bar it's handy, shows lots of CG's etc.

No, you have to take the highway, road doesn't go through. You can camp up that road, but spots are limited.

No, not currently. WYDOT and the FS aren't into it. It's also really short. WAY easier to hitch with your bikes from the Stagecoach, it's a local custom. Usually folks don't wait more than 10 minutes or so.

    Wydaho Rendezous updates!

Ok, so a bunch going on for the Rendezvous!

The price is $55 lousy bucks.
which includes 3 days lift tickets, FREE (2014) Demos from

    Santa Cruz
    Rocky Mountain
    Giant
    Pivot
    Scott

This alone should be enough. pretty ridiculous.
the races, clinics, raffles, etc will be A la Carte/
(you get some raffle tickets with registration)
T shirts, a few Snake River Beers every day, t-shirt, and a very good swag bag will be included.

Free group rides all over the valley, from the Pass to the Big Holes, everywhere.
DH clinics with Shaums March, and trials, beginners, women, and advanced clinics will be available.

Camping is at targhee, so literally roll to the lifts!

This entire thing is a 100% volunteer fundraiser for TVTAP, in order to develop and maintain trails.

There will be two new major trails at Targhee debuting for the race, including a flow trail and (i believe) a new DH.

Andy and Harlan have been working like crazy up there. it's getting nuts, trail wise.
Feel free to ask any questions, i"ll do my best to answer.

    a few pixxors

Bought for a bear bell and compass.... I used the bell lots for bikers and oblivious tourists... no bears, never got lost.

The local trail builders deserve recognition, there are so many miles of awesome riding and great infrastructure.

    Obligatory aspens, wildflowers and singletrack

    seemed relevant

Waaaay off the tourist path... drive into the Wind River mountains, that's the Green River. Idyllic, etc

Green River lake, looking South toward Jim Bridger Wilderness. Grizzly country.

    Critters in abundance

    Shooter. ****ing. Jennings.
/ a free concert at the ski resort... maybe 300 people watching. Great show and after-concert mingling

Just hitch from the coach...usually a lot faster and easier than shuttling.
