Suggestions of good trails near Salmon and Missoula

Planning on a road trip in a few weeks. We are going thru Salmon and Missoula then up to Whitefish. Appreciate any good trail recommendations.

Check out The Hub in Salmon: Ride Salmon Idaho

My wife and I were headed to do the Big Boulder/Little Boulder ride in the White Clouds last Weekend, but got turned around by smoke. Ended up spending a couple of day in the Salmon area and got the guidebook and did an out and back into the Beaverheads on the CDT starting from about 10 miles up 4th of July Road (pretty rough road last 5 miles). Great area; also some rides off Chief Joseph Pass on the MT side too. Cheers!

Lots of options for trails. Great backcountry riding, and choice of high elevation or low elevation rides. Check out idaholosttrails.blogspot.com for Salmon area riding or www.bitterrootbackcountryclycist.org or skidmap.com for ideas. Local bike shops will also have info. Good rides starting from Chief Joseph Pass area also. Some of the rides require a shuttle but looking at the maps will show this aka contour lines. The trails accessed via road through the Lost Trail Pass Ski Area may be closed for logging in the ski area boundary. Check with Bitterroot National Forest if planning to ride in that area.

    Salmon MTB Guidebook

The Salmon MTB Guidebook is FREE and available at theHUB in Salmon, or the Chamber of Commerce/City of Salmon building right next to the Salmon River. Just dropped off 50 copies yesterday at North Fork Store in North Fork, ID.

Also, coming up on Sept 6-8 is the Lost Trail Shuttle Fest on the Warm Springs trail system above Lost Trail Ski Area. Those are some great trails....once you ride them, your Favorite Trail List will get rearranged.
