Stanley- 4th of july warm springs-robinson bar

got in a nice 38 miler in some of the best technical riding with scenery out there.
we rode up 4 of july from highway then to the very upper Warm Springs Creek all
the way down to Robinson Bar. quite a few down trees, so watch out for them around
the corners. So few people ride this trail, it was a bit over grown. Harley, thanks for setting
    this ride up.

Great last shot. They're all real nice, but that last shot in the creek...priceless.

Mitch, great riding with you! And thanks again to Harley for putting together a string of great rides.

Ants Basin connection to Warm Springs

This week my wife and I reconned the Ants basin route to Warm Springs meadow, we had the map that showed a trail connecting but couldn't find the trail. Any help would be appreciated.

When we rode there a year ago, that trail was no where to be found. We had a couple of gps's that showed the trail, but it wasn't evident on the ground. The connection is the southerly trail that heads east to the born lakes, and connects (although the connection is not shown on the map) to trail #671.

Edit: here's a map showing our course, versus where the nonexistent trail is.

The trail you are looking at on the first map either doesn't exist anymore or was never there. We did the loop three weeks ago and found it just to the East of Born Lakes. Once you come off the ridge you must go East through the scree and rock, then turn downhill and follow Warm Springs Creek. You will cross over the outlet for the lower lake.

Thanks a lot for your info. We were lucky because we had hiked up and over from 4th of July trailhead to scout it out. A young couple from Salt Lake had ridden up the road and had the same map we had, they couldn't figure it out either, and ended up pushing back up the ridge and riding back down to their Decker Flats campsite, ouch.
    Ride the bike.

Oh, ouch is right! That's a great ride, we ended up coming out Williams Creek. Hope to make it back soon. I'd have liked to come out at Robinson bar, but last year I guess a bridge was washed out leaving no way to get across the river there.

The route on both maps that goes out of Ants Basin to the Warm Springs Meadow Trail grows in every year. There are faint signs and a few rock cairns. Not a recommended route.

Unfortunately every map has this route on it.

I found this "trail" by turning left at the bottom of the switch backs before crossing the creek in Ants Basin. There is an old cabin in the middle of the basin then head to the rim. at the rim of the basin you will find the rock cairn marking the edge and trail at about the 9375 elevation mark on the map.

Both maps do not show enough detail but the trail on the ground is very defined all the way to the Born Lakes. There is more than one Born Lake. The trail takes you right to the edge of one of them. Follow the edge of the lake trail to the left and up a slight technical climb. In a short distance will be a trail intersection from the upper lake. GO LEFT.

Down the trail will take you to the Warm Springs Meadow.

Trail 219 from Ants Basin through Born Lakes Does connect to Trail 671 that goes down Warms Spring Creek to Warm Springs Meadow. The connection is on the ground and is easy to follow. None of the maps shows the link between these trails.

At the Meadow is a creek crossing to access the "Pig Tail" section that will lead to Williams Creek or around again back to the other end of the Warm Springs Meadow and out to Robinson Bar. Other trail intersections from Warm Springs Meadow trail on the way to Robinson Bar will be - Martin Creek; Garland Lakes; Then Garland Creek.

The Car Bridge across the Salmon River at the Upper and Lower O'Brian Camp Ground area has been rebuilt and is open. Adventure Maps has a pretty good version of this route.

Thanks for the pictures! I rode that trail many years ago before digital cameras so I had no pic's. Your pic's remind me of just how nice it was!

Let's hope they don't make that a Wilderness Area!!

Make some noise people. Anyone who has ridden any of the White Cloud trails comes away with the same feeling - some of if not the best mountain bike riding anywhere. We are poised to loose all of it except for Fisher Creek. Write letters, make phone calls, ask questions - Don't hold the hold the White Clouds for ransom or you'll make many of us into outlaws.

I want to do this ride!

I'm coming up from California in about a week. If I buy the adventure maps, will I be able to plan out this ride from the description in the first post?

And another newb question.. Where exactly did you start, and was it a loop? Or did you have a shuttle vehicle somewhere....

A shuttle is recommended for this loop. We usually start at the 4th of july trailhead.

The buzz is that the USFS has got a wilderness trail crew of 12 this year clearing Warm Springs Meadow to Robinson Bar. The crew has already cleared all of Big Casino, Boundary Trail, Martin Trail and Garland Trail - for the first time in 5 years. The ranger district recieved an increase budget this year from the economic strimulus trickledown.

Show your support for your elected officials by riding these trails! Swole.

    Garland lakes trail

first time I rode out Warm Springs to Robinson bar we got into Warm Sprigs via Garland lakes trail. it was wild back then! sounds like they may be taming it back into a civilized trail. we got to Garland lakes from Rough creek and Hemorhoid Hill (some uneasy, steady, slow pushing): a short, direct route that I would highly recommend, especially for Big Casino.

I did the loop solo coming out at williams. i did use a 4 wheeler to shuttle 4th of july creek road. I would recommend some type of shuttle. but you can do it with a 4 wheeelr and a trailer.

4thofjuly, ants, warm springs williams creek and others?
