    Owhyees Conditions Today

Were the footies rideable today before got above freezing?

Went out to the Owhyees did a NW Passage loop solo including w500 (Bingo).

COLD wind at the trailhead and windy at section, but other than that really nice trail conditions. Didn't drop into Reynolds Canyon/China Wall today.

Some sections of the singletrack up NW Passage are rutted, or rather have turned into one big rut, and the "Slot" section along the top has changed and is a little trickier but I'm rusty and didn't try it because I don't trust the front of my bike to roll, stuff, not sure why.

Not many people out there in god's sparse winter country, not even a lonely coyote (that's not necessarily a good thing, just is what it is). There sure are alot of rednecks at the store there on the Snake River though......"that boy not from these parts". yeah, from Boise a whopping 45 minutes away, lol.....

Cody, how you doing man? maybe we could get a group going. I invite Cbro, Cdirtie, Matt Weyen (from Bobs), and called Lon too.

I'll probably be going out there solo again day before on Fri since I am taking a vacation day.

I haven't been riding much. I have shifted gears to my winter (indoor) activities for the most part. I don't do well with cold

Rode it with Swede. Mud. We turned around fairly shortly after starting. It needs some dry weather and a good hard freeze.

As long as it is frozen....

We were out there yesterday. The trails were frozen and we had a great time. The Owyhee's really are a great winter time place to ride
I just don't understand my wife....she thinks its nuts to ride when the temperature is in the 20's....go figure

Anyone have an idea of what the trail conditions will be like this weekend? Did the Owyhees get rain this week too?

Question for the 2O (ir?)regulars (lv2ride, 98, pig, twisted, nels, surly, ivan, impdude etc.):

Want to take my 2 boys out at the end of the month/beginning of next month (in lieu of a long drive to St. George and back) to the Owyhees for their Spring Break/dad-son camping time. I know it's going to be chilly but we'll address that with nuclear devices. Please share your thoughts on driving out into an area off the road for a 2-3 days of tent camping, mtb, firearms, and campfires. I've got 4WD if necessary.

Looking to explore our backyard here in SW ID and to save us many hundred$ in ga$oline, and ~18 hours of driving, but still giving us a killer time hanging out and getting stinky.

Any tips and suggestions are really appreciated. Feel free to PM me any specific info of value. Thanks a ton.

Some Mud Flat Rd./Owyhee Scenic Byway info here:

Looks like i will be taking a job in mountain home id. What's near by??

Give BLM a call about the road conditions. The snow is melting and I hear they are going to plow the road through the middle of this month.

The SNOTEL site will give you an idea of ground conditions. When the melt starts it can go pretty quickly. Spring break might be a little early for camping this year.

Thanks for the info. I believe I watched a nice piece on the OUSB on Outdoor Idaho last year. My neighbor is an adventurous guy who likes to drive out into the middle of this and take some nature photos. He'll probably also have some input.

What a dandy board this is becoming.
