The New Belgium Brewing Tour de Fat pedals into Boise for the eighth year with bike antics, sustainable goodness, and philanthropic fun. Opening the show with a costumed bike parade, the Tour de Fat celebrates the power of the bicycle by encouraging everyone to embrace their inner cyclist and ride the streets as a rolling carnival of creativity. As part of New Belgium’s commitment to increase awareness and participation in cycling as sustainable form of transportation, one brave soul will hand over the keys to his or her car and receive a hand-built Black Sheep commuter bike. In addition to being a ballyhoo of bikes and beer and as much fun as you can imagine, the Tour de Fat is the most important fund raiser for the Southwest Idaho Mountain Biking Association (SWIMBA). Proceeds from last year’s beer sales enabled SWIMBA to partner with Ridge to Rivers in funding two new trails in the Boise foothills, purchase much needed tools for the SWIMBA Trail Team, create educational material to promote safe and responsible mountain biking, and donate money to the Boise Bicycle Project and the IRC Bear Camp mountain bike camp for refugee children. None of this would have been possible without New Belgium Brewing and the Tour de Fat.
So – come out and enjoy! Tell your friends to attend! And, most importantly, please volunteer to help out! Volunteers are needed for set-up on the morning of the event, to check ID’s and hand out wrist bands, sell beer tokens, and for tear down and clean up after the event. Volunteers receive swag and beer tokens. To volunteer, contact Margie Rosenberg email@example.com. Hope to see you there!
