    Holy smokes

Ugh. It's pretty gnarly outside, considering that we don't have any local fires and all the smoke is from Idaho. This morning's MODIS image:

I bailed on a lunchtime ride, and it's gotten worse since then. Hope it clears up for tomorrow.

edit: now that the whole Missoula subset is up, I can see the Sawtooth fire outside Hamilton is adding to the mix as well.

If I'm oriented correctly, then I'm in that little intense smoky spot on the lower left. Not fun.

I'll bet it was pretty bad in Hamilton yesterday.

    Note to self:

    Go up and left.

Has it been really smoky there as of lately? Kind of kills my plans to ride in MT and head west into ID afterwards..I was just on your fine forum sort of poking around for any direction I can go to get in a good ride while I am in the area.

Varies from day to day based on atmospheric conditions / weather / fire activity. I wouldn't let it cancel a trip unless your destination is actively on fire.

It's cleared up reasonably well here, for example, and I'll be riding this afternoon.

Yup. It's worth a stop- we have quite a few trails right outside town and two good breweries, one of which is pretty close to the trailheads. There are scheduled group rides out of all 3 bike shops, so it's easy to get a guided tour.
