Hat Creek Lakes are on the east side of Taylor Mountain, west of Highway 93 about midway between Salmon and Challis, Idaho. It is pretty remote and a rough road access. We accessed via the Iron Creek road to North Fork of Hat Creek and rode/pushed up the North Fork of Hat Creek trail past the lakes a ways then back down the Middle Fork of Hat Creek. Would have been easier to go up the middle fork and down the north fork. An alternative access is from Iron Lake via the Ridge Road. The trail the direction we rode it has lots of hike a bike up and rock rubble with tech sections. The views are great. The low point of the ride was about 6,800 feet and high point is about 9,200 feet. We rode quite a bit of the access road because it is rough. The ride was a lariat loop with about 15 miles of old logging road and 9 miles of trail riding. However you get there, its a tough ride with hike a bikeing.
