Public input needed Dec. 13 on Boise Foothills Management Plan


The public is invited to provide feedback on an update to the Boise Foothills Management Plan at a meeting from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center, 3188 Sunset Peak Road.

Topics to be discussed include recreation, sportsman use, transportation, solid waste, cultural resources, grazing and visual resources.

The Boise Foothills Management Plan was completed in 2000 with assistance from agencies and private landowners that manage foothills property. The plan describes the location and importance of plants, wildlife, riparian corridors, soils, slopes, recreation and public open spaces. Goals and recommendations are outlined in the plan for long-term protection of each resource.

This is the second in a three-part series of public meetings about the Foothills plan. Topics to be discussed at the final meeting on Feb. 28 include funding, public involvement, environmental education, acquisition of open space and public safety issues. Water, soils, plant communities, weeds and wildlife were the focus of the first meeting in September.

Many of the recommendations of the 2000 plan have been implemented over the past decade. The plan laid the foundation for the Foothills Serial Levy ballot initiative in 2001. To see the Boise Foothills Management Plan, vist our website.

The updated plan is expected to be completed by early summer 2013.

so what I learned is that the State land, blm and forest service land is managed by
ridge to rivers. R2r has quarterly meeting for input(did not know this till yesterday evening).
The 3 other entities give r2r input as opposed to direct user input. The people there representing r2r were vague about answering specific questions and suggested getting
a hold of David Gordon.
So anyway there was an outline for future trails, but no specifics on timing. There were
some new proposed rules about more gov't bs. One was no races allowed. Just think,
the continental railroad would still be in the planning stages if they had all the gov't bureaucracy that we had today. Get your input in. I think that like the motos, a offroad
sticker for 20$ a year would go a very long ways to getting trails built much quicker.
