Coming to Butte, but not staying...Big Sky?

What's up with Big Sky and the lifts?
I'll be in Butte next week, but since there's not much 'freeriding' there, I plan to go to Bozeman.

Seems like a bunch of blue runs at Big Sky is that right? is it worth the time?

I think it'll be Friday, maybe Saturday. 31st or 1st.
I'm willing to drive 2 hours, if it's worth it.

Big Sky used to be reeeeaally good years ago until they stopped running the lift "swift current" to over 10 killer black diamond trails that featured a lot of gnarly natural terrain and some ladders here and there. It was technical, rough, and super fun.

Now, they only have a few runs, but they are pretty good and recent trail days have been pulling things together. I think they are on track if they can keep consistently building up there. I will likely go and help on the next trail day (I was riding the North Shore in BC during this last one).

I will always miss the excellent older trails and now there isn't as much variety (YET), but I'd say it is definitely worth it for a day or two of some decent downhilling if you have the skills for Africa and Revenge.

Big Sky also features numerous excellent all-mountain local trails if you have a decent pedaling 6 incher or a big bike with a granny ring. Ask about them in the local Gallatin Alpine Sports bike shop or purchase a copy of Montana Singletrack by Beartooth Publising for details.

A couple of us from Bozeman are headed down there on Sunday. We'll take some pics and have a ride report for you when we get back.
