    Butte/ HomestakePass/Pipestone Pass

A friend and I will be staying near Homstake Pass this weekend and we want to get 2 good rides in. In years past we've ridden Beaver Ponds/Toll Canyon one day and out and back from Homestake Pass headed south the other.

We're happy to do that again, but I thought I check to see if anyone had a better idea. We're not interested in heading over to Pipestone BLM area or to Lewis and Clark Canyons and need to stay as close to Homestake Pass as possible since we dont have alot of time.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Ditto what Tim208 said, that's really the only other "close" option.

There is a new trail off of beaver pond (4800) which drops down into Butte (or back to road via 4805), presumably you could ride that downhill and take RR tracks or road back up to Pipestone pass.

I uploaded the online PDF for Thompson Park trails to another thread a while back...

    Pipestone / Homestake conditions?

How many miles of trail are involved in this "fun out and back north of I-90?" Is it singletrack?

yes, it is singletrack. roughly 8 miles up and a fun downhill back. good views from top. Not a very hard climb, it just keeps going.
