    Buffalo Canyon

Located around ten miles west of Buffalo Montana. Take Buffalo Canyon Road to Buffalo Canyon Road S. This is forest service double track where you can actually see the road. This mountain range features deep limestone canyons and Buffalo Canyon narrows to around five feet in one place. It's a very scenic ride and lots of fun coming down. Absolutely infested with lions. There is a side canyon going west I have not been up yet but I see it has a cow trail going up it.

    Dark Canyon

Thanks guys. Last night I stayed up with maps and found that the side canyon leading west from Buffalo Canyon is called "Dark Canyon". Kinda spooky, I gotta go back and check it out. Here is a shot of the entrance to Dark Canyon and a few more of Buffalo. Buffalo Canyon is officially forest road # 479. And no, the 69 ranch is not trying to be funny.

Great pics. I've never explored around this area. Was there public access to those canyons or did you need permission?

    Antelope Canyon

Hey montanabiker, have you hit the snowies this summer? Buffalo canyon is public access, that is to say you are not required to ask permission, you kind of need to know where to turn there are no signs, turn left, south, onto the double track at the green block management box about two hundred yards before colin dover's house. I parked the van and rode in from there. It would be a nice ride in from the double buffalo canyon road sign too.

To access Antelope Canyon without crossing over the Belts you need permission from Tom Nicholson and Bob Wertheimer and they are unlikely to grant access during hunting season. The entrance to this canyon is a tunnel. There are caves covered in quartz crystals. The canyon is hundreds of feet deep in limestone cliffs. Not to be believed. Officially it is forest service trail 480.
