Trip time!! Crested Butte or Sun Valley??

Setting up a vacation from Jul 11 to 22. We'll stay 4 or 5 days in Park City, then head off to whichever destination above. We'll rent a vacation house in both destinations and rent cars. Anyone have visited both and care to compare?

I ride my HD in 150F/140R here @ home and change to 160mm when traveling (Downieville, Tahoe, Oregon BC), but will I need to when riding in the above destinations and carry one more pound around? From what I've read, trails are pretty buffed..

    Any other traveling/destination suggestions?

Trip time!! Crested Buttte or Sun Valley??

Never had the chance to ride CB. Sun Valley, however, is incredible. No need for the long travel setup there, though. Light, fast, and efficient is the order of the day for covering big miles and lots of climbing on buff single track.

Never been to SV, but CB has the resort riding ( life served, jump, flow, and dh lines ), lterally tons of single track all over the valley, and is pretty secluded.

Both are great destinations. I agree to keep the bike light, both places have big climbs, CB also adds in high altitude. My only knock on CB is that the deer flies can get brutal in the summer, not enough reason to keep my away though.

Sun Valley if you prefer UP. Crested Butte if you like UP, but love it much more on the way DOWN.

The Jedi section of Doctors Park at CB was possibly the most fun I had on an MTB last season.

Crested Butte is my favorite place ive ever been to. But ive never ridden sun valley. Ive had equal amounts of fun on my HD in 160 mode and my Ripley. Either way you will have a blast.

Just throwing this out there since ID is already in the mix and you did ask for other destinations. Check out Jackson Hole and Teton Valley for riding. 2 awesome riding locations in one stop. Unlimited options lift access trails or plenty of earn your turns. Check out Andrew Whiteford on Vimeo for his Ibis HD rides in the area.

FYI, Groupon has some insane deals going on for Mt. Crested Butte right now. I picked up a room at the Elevation Hotel and Spa for $89/night this summer!!

Trip time!! Crested Buttte or Sun Valley??

I spent 5 days in CB last August and loved it, did all the must do rides and the bike park, this was my 2nd trip to CB. We stayed at the Grand Lodge at the MTN. Village and it was a perfect spot with good amenities. Hope fully your timeline will get you there before the monsune season really gets going, because it was pretty brutal last year in Colorado. Sun valley is on my bucket list though. I ride my SC Bronson with XX1 set up and worked great for all my riding! Enjoy!

I've ridden both a bunch of times. Both areas contain some of the best riding on the planet. The riding is a bit more centrally located in CB. While there are plenty of trails close to Ketchum/Sun Valley there are also a ton of hikers. Several of the classics got whacked in the fire last summer.

CB may be higher in elevation but SV/Ketchum/Stanley has plenty of big mountain riding. Generally, the riding gets more technical as you go further north. The backcountry riding in the While Clouds is truly inspiring.

My vote goes to Idaho but as stated, you can't go wrong with either.

Riding the White Clouds is always an adventure because you're way out there and there is no help if a bike or physical mechanical happens. We rode it a few years ago, and over the course of an 8 hour ride, only saw a few cowboys and a Forest Ranger wondering how the hell we got back there on bikes...

The downhill on Little Boulder is a riot. This is a nice write-up on the other side of Castle Peak. Castle Peak Stanley,ID

I did the Castle Peak loop two years ago in early July and the only person I saw was a horse packer with a string of mules going into a fish camp. The downhill on Little Casino is also worthy.

With a shuttle, 4th of July Lake to Warm Springs and out at Robinson Bar is an 8 hour adventure ride. Didn't see anyone on that one either. Really, in the White Clouds the only ride with traffic is Fisher Creek.
