Standard or Cane Creek 110 headset for Ripley?

What are the advantages of the CC headset? It costs $117 more.

    Thanks.

Standard or Cane Creek 110 headset for Ripley?

I have 110's on 2 bikes. One purchased in 2009, one from 2013. Never had any issues and haven't done anything other than take them apart and clean them occasionally.

I have no experience with the standard, which I believe is the 40. I generally opt for higher end headsets cause I usually keep my bikes for a long time and it's worth it for the trouble free long term durability. But honestly I don't even know anything about the 40 , for all I know it's just as durable, probably a tiny bit heavier and ... Gasp... Only comes in black.

Standard or Cane Creek 110 headset for Ripley?

I've had CK or 110 headsets on all my other bikes since 2003. For the ripley, I went with the CC40. You know what? It works great. Will it last 10 years? No idea--probably--but I also doubt I'll be riding my ripley in 10 years. If you want jewelry through, go 110 or CK.

Did a warranty claim on a 110 - no problems at all. Still another 100+ years to go on the warranty.

Stainless steel bearings, better seals and a 110 year warranty on the 110 vs black oxide coated steel bearings and a 1 yr warranty for the 40. Have seen threads about rust/corrosion on the bearings on the 40 after a wet winter season of riding. How much wet riding do you do?

Good points on the bearings. Alas, no danger of coming across any water here in SoCal.

Rusted bearings can be replaced several times before you hit the price point of CK or 110.
I used to buy blingy headsets until I noticed there is no functional difference. I'm all for buying high-end parts, but for me a high-end headset is a waste of money.

Get the Cane Creek 110. I find it better than even Chris King. Smooth as butter always.
