    New Rear Triangle Carbon Layup

    Hans/Scot

Can you guys tell us if the new 27.5 rear triangle is going to be the same layup as the HD rear or the HDR? Same estimated weight/strength? Thanks

    Hi Ramjm_2000,

The HD retrofit rear triangle will be the same layup as the HDR.

The weight will about the same as the current HD rear triangles since the weight savings on the HDR is primarily from the front triangle.

and how will the new triangle run in terms of BB height?
will it run any lower than the standard HD BB height?

    Hi ianthom,

The HD retrofit rear triangle will not affect the BB height.

maybe the wrong time to ask since I already ordered one of the retro swingarms instead of going to an HDR...but will the HD with the retro arm have a different bb height than an HDR (in comparable travel modes)?

    Hi riderup,

The BB height will be the same using the HD retrofit rear triangle in both travel modes as the original HD swing arm.

    Hi riderup,

The BB height for the HD is different than the HDR.

The BB height for the HDR W/ 26" is 13.8
The BB height for the HDR W/ 27.5" is 13.5

The BB height for the HD W/ 26" @160 is 13.8
The BB height for the HD W/ 26" @140 is 13.5
    The BB height for the HD W/ 27.5" @140 is ~ 14.25

The difference in BB height between the HDR W/27.5 and the HD W/27.5
comes from the front shock mounting chips which are model specific.

These numbers are all dependent on what tire/fork combination you are using.

Todd those numbers look off to me. My HD 140 with a Velvet 140 had a BB height closer to 13.5 with Schwalbe RR 2.25/NN 2.35 mix in 27.5. With my sweep its still under 14". What fork and tires is that measured with?

Well, since 650b is almost exactly 1" bigger than 26" you should get 0.5" higher BB when using same size+brand tire and same AC fork.
Personally I prefer when companies spec BB-drop in relation to wheel center, it's a much more comparable measurement.
