    HD3: Damn.

First good long, dialed-in ride on my XL HD3 today. I realize I'm preaching to the choir here, but DAMN, it's a fine fine machine. Way more fun than the Nomad 3 IMHO. Fast, flickable, playful, stiff, nimble....just awesome. Suspension feel is amazing, supportive and taut but with a great bottomless feel on bigger hits.

And geometry is spot-on. I'm 6'2.5" and the XL felt awesome, climbed great without wheelie-ing out, plenty of room in the cockpit. Well worth the wait!

Do my eyes deceive me, or is that the top of Tiger Mt. and Rainier in the distance? Looks like a nice day for a ride! I rode too, but in a nice car coming back from Walla Walla Wine Weekend.

Indeed, a great day at Tiger. Kind of a mob scene; I've never seen both parking lots totally full with cars parked in the middle and all along the roads too. But a great test of the HD3. I was enjoying it so much I did two laps of the mountain.

I did everything but Silent Swamp. (Like I said, 2 laps.) I'm running DHF/DHRs.

Down Preston as opposed to up. Sounds like you rate the HD3 better than the Nomad on the DH, that's quite an endorsement... Cool!

Well, I think the HD3 is MORE FUN than the Nomad. That's obviously a very subjective measure. My idea of fun is a playful, poppy, bike that's quick edge-to-edge, quick to leave the ground, but still eats up rougher stuff. Nomad is probably faster down Preston (straight and fast but chundery) but I'd rather ride the HD3 any day.

I'll post a more complete tall-guy comparison after a few more rides....

I'm looking forward to your comparison too. I pondered the Nomad for quite a while before I got to demo both, and ended up going HD3, which I'm very happy with.

Could you compare the standing climbing positions? One thing that I really liked about the Nomad was able to maintain my standing position without tiring. I'm guessing it may have to do with being able to support a lot of my weight with my arms due to the long front center, and maybe those huge bars are part of it too. That's my theory at least.

I think I understand your distinction DB. Like a snow plough v a snowboard. Trying to think of a PNW ride where I'd prefer the Nomad and it's tough. Outside of bike parks. Hope to see ya on trails up there this summer!

Just a shade under 6'3". So statuesque but not knock-myself-out-on-doorframes.

Yeah that's kinda my feeling. Maybe in cali or more desert terrain where you just bomb down rough fast stuff the Nomad would be preferred. But with all the twisty, switch-backy trails around here, and with most of them involving loam rather than really chunky rocks, I find the HD3 much more to my liking.
