HD chain line and MRP guide..

    Hi all,

Been running my HD for a few weeks now but I'm not happy with the chain line. My setup is SRAM bb, 2 spacers on drive side lopes guide, then X0 DH crankset. I think ideally I need to only run one spacer on the drive side but then the lopes guide catches on the main pivot. Is there another guide that has a slimmer plate that won't catch the main pivot? Or should I dremel the plate so it clears the pivot?

    Thanks!

    Phil

It may sound counter-intuitive but the drive side spacers do not modify the chainline on SRAM GXP BBs. The spindle floats on the drive side BB bearing. If you want to modify the chainline, add/remove spacers on the non-drive side, that moves the whole spindle/cranks in or outboard.

Although it may visually resemble Shimano's Hollowtech 2, the GXP is entirely different; drive side spacers do really nothing but move the bearing.

Really? Surely changing from 2 spacers on the drive side to 1 spacer will move the whole crankset closer to the frame?

Take a closer look at what happens when you remove one of the spacers on the drive side - the gap between the cup and the crank will get bigger but the crank will not move a bit. Chainline is adjusted on the non drive side instead where the step in the spindle is rested against the bearing. The drive side bearing is not loaded. You might find some good topics about GXP in the Drivetrain forum.
