hello my fellow ibis owners, just a quick question about carbon fiber in general. has anyone heard that sunlight can slowly ruin carbon fiber without proper paint protection. not sure if this is true or not???
From my understanding of the problem, it was when carbon fibre was a new technology and the epoxies used were also new there were issues with the epoxies turning yellow and cracking when exposed to ultraviolet light and thereby in different cases going from being a cosmetic problem to in some cases being a structural problem. With technology advances both with caronfibre and the epoxies, this is not really an issue anymore when dealing with carbon fibre produced by knowledgable producers.
I have a 1995 ellsworth absolute truth that the swingarm is carbon fiber with a clear coat.
It has yellowed and a bit battered up over the years, but is just fine otherwise.
all the bikes are sitting these days except my orange mojo.
