95, 96, 97 Ibis Mojos in Ti and Steel.

ok, so i finally finished some of the projects around the shop, because after all it is winter, and sometimes as a bike shop and mechanic you've got some spare time.

so, a 95 mojo in steel, a 96 Ti Mojo and a 97 Mojo back from the dead thanks to Bob Brown.

all for now, need to actually go home from the shop.

    thought i'd share the pics.

    nate

oh, and they really aren't "Retro" but maybe a tad classic? the 97 actually has the most "unusual" bits or older in year. anyhow, hope nobody minds. happy times to all this season.

Very cool. How often do you have that many Ibises together? I like the brown one.
Each bicycle owned exponentially increases the probability that none is working correctly.

    Very, very classy.

That's how a mountain bike should look.

I like the green one, so Laffeaux and I won't have any issues fighting over the bikes when you send them to us.

Green is nice. Is that the color Ibis called "Lung Butter"

I would give a kidney for the Ti Mojo. Always wanted one, but could never afford one.

    thanks fellars..

the brown 95 needs the manitou 1 or Judy it originally had on it. It hangs on our wall and belongs to my only employee and other mechanic Eric. The Ti mojo does have a Fat City big one inch fork on it, but some newer 97 XTR and kings, so not really correct.

The Green 97 has the oldest parts, but is the newest. it originally was Pond Scum but the paint got wrecked so then they painted it 97 Team colors, the orange and blue with the charlie brown points. pretty cool, but then the tubing rusted and the down tube and chainstays had rust holes in them and bob brown brazed in new bits. so it finally is complete again with NOS 94 XTR and White industries cranks and hubs. I'm stoked to have it built back up. While it was out of commission I built up the Ti Mojo. now they all three just hang around on the walls. sometimes i ride the Ti bike but i wish it had 29" wheels.

thanks for all the comments, anyone else have a Super old like early 80's Ibis?

    all for now

yup, sure do, and actually it's getting redone as well with new decals, and the same paint job, but new and done by Spectrum Powderworks that also did the green 97 mojo.

you'll see it soon, but with a koski fork and all new decals (period correct) and new powdercoat in the same scheme.

thanks again for that it went to Eric who also owns the brown mojo, both at the shop.

    happy holidays.
nate, gotta get out of the shop and close for the day.

haven't posted our moj in a while, replaced a few of the original parts to make it more, um, comfortable. Still don't ride it, but had to see how it built up with some modern touches.

I don't see these decals on the list .

    Repatining an Ibis

    1. Does anyone know the manufacturer and product numbers for the last ibis colors:

ie. red, yaeger blue, pond scum, that great orange, and lung butter?

    2. Is spectrum a better place to get a bike painted, or would they know the colors? I was planning on sending it to Sycip, but they dont seem to know them.

    3. I've looked at the ibis decal instructions and am pretty handy - just curious if these things are really hard to put on myself if the paint shop doesnt sound enthusiastic, or should I get a professional to do it. Oh and BTW - you dont havea "Ripley" name sticker do you?

    Thanks

    Ben

    Very nice Ibis'

I still race my 99 Mojo and I just converted it to singlespeed. (the muddy pic was after a 4th place finish last year)

I have a 95 Mojo or so with a handjob (the blue one now built up as an ugly bike)

And I just sold my 89 Ibis SS (came with a pink stem and a tan panaracer magic)

So, I too had 3 Ibis' hanging out in the garage.

    Mike,

yours is exactly the one i always think of when Eric (my buddy and other mechanic here at the shop, who owns the brown one) and i talk about Ibis's. Before he owned the brown one, he had a SS just like yours with full xc9000 in limited edition yellow, then it got stolen and he sobbed. then he bought the brown one, and it is kind of metallic rootbeer, custom paint. I'll have to show him the pic of yours he'll be stoked, specially with drops and koski fork, not to mention the rad rear rollercam.

gotta get back to the saturday morning shop stuff.

    thanks for the pic.

Thanks Nate. It's in the process of getting the Suntour indexed barcon re-installed on the right side and an XC Pro r/d as it was when I first built it. It's also gettng the original Specialized forged crankset back since I robbed this crank to put on the new old Ritchey.

I think a Manitou 4 would be correct for the '95 bike, not a Manitou I.

Nice bikes though.. I love the original XTR. The best looking grouppo ever. Current Shimano stuff looks like crap..

Hey there Bob, how's the winter treating you folks in CB. we haven't had hardly any snow around here, which seems to be the trend as of late. The Surly Pugsley is starting to loose the tread on it's tires due to too much dirt or street use. Hey, i had forgotten about the Ibis allen wrench, i haven't seen one of those forever.

Mike, the SS will be super nice with the original Suntour on it, and the Specialized cranks are my favorite, just need some more.

I didn't meen to suggest that the 95 would be period correct with a Manitou 1 on it, that's just what it use to have before it totally fell apart and somehow ended up with a really new fork.

    all for now

    Hey Bigwheel -

I know this is near blaphemy, but are you in any way interested in parting with your Ibis Headbadge - mine on my my bike got destroyed. Its kind of a desperate plea, but thought I would make it anyway. (shapirob@ucla.edu)

    Thanks

Thanks. Actually I already ordered one of those and the holes dont line up - I think they were manufactured a little big - which means drillling a hole in the head tube. Plus they are bronze, which I think is pretty prone to oxidizing and turning green. I miss the silver chromed beauty! Thanks for the sugestion though.

    Sorry, nfs.

And Nut, that isn't an allen wrench, it's a smoke nipple. You don't need that Pugsley as much as you need a New Sheriff either.....

Pond Scum color info if you have it

Hi, I'm looking at having Spectrum repaint my Ibis Alibi that I'm restoring into a commuter in pond scum. Do you happen to know what RAL number your bike was painted in as it's really really close if not dead on. Thanks again, and great looking bikes.
