    Atlas Sport vs Trophy Pro

    Ok guys, I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of a FS vs a HT, and vice versa. There is a guy selling an Atlas sport here and I'm wondering if I should just bite and skip out on the trophy pro, or if I should go FS in the first place. Thanks!

    you are looking at two different kind of bikes...the trophy pro, which is an excellent bike with outstanding components, is intended for XC but not for AM...in the other hand you have an Atlas and that steed is definitely for AM...so it all comes down to the type of riding youll be doing...

    Give us a bit more background on yourself. Where you ride, how you ride, if you race, and what you intend on using the bike for. From there we can narrow down the choices alot better!

    I will ride every week probably 2-3 times, I'll be doing simple trails first then hopefully moving on to more difficult trails. I live in Texas, so for any Texans I essentially want a bike that can handle Cameron Park in Waco fairly well... but can someone explain the advantages and disadvantages? For example, which type of bike climbs better, what is the second shock going to do and how will it effect the ride, things like that.

    i think you need a XC bike if you are worried about climbing and my bet is on the Trophy....it is IBEXs Hardtails top bike...it is definitely light, and it climbs amazingly, although i dont own one but i can tell you on behalf of a XC FS bike, the ASTA...built for the same purpose...however, the difference on the hardtail will be more a bumpy feeling...and will definitely make you a more skilled rider...i personally dont like the bumpy feeling, but i guess if i had been long enough on a hardtail i might have already gotten used to it...other than i am happy with my FS...the trophy will definitely do fine over the Texan lands...there is a guy from Dallas who owns a trophy and has been rather happy with it...he hasnt posted lately though...good luck

    i used to live in the metroplex...FW to be exact...i went to TCU, and I definitely miss the metroplex, very nice place to live...

    Well technically I live in Arlington, I've been hiking at Oak Cliff preserve, I know its not a crazy bike trail but everytime I go there I wish I had a bike.

    Depends on what kind of stuff you're gonna be riding. The Trophy is going to be an awesome XC race bike. The Asta will still be competitive in XC racing and also be a more capable rig enabling you to ride some gnarlier stuff should you choose to.

    07' Atlas Sport......AM with a DH'er appetite and a touch of XC..
    07' Trophy Pro......XC with a taste for AM..
    08' Asta Pro.........XC with the nutsack for AM

    hmmm... so you think I should go with the Asta comp X7 over the trophy pro at the same price... I guess the Asta is really good, arent the components better on the pro though?

    You know what, i think Im gonna go FS and get the comp X7, then I'll probably go UGI on it as time passes, It will give me time to really learn how the different parts can effect the bike. The frames seem to be the same with all the Asta's, I wish I could get the orange frame though.

    All of the frames within a given series are material and geometrically equal..
    The components get better the more you spend..I understand your preference
    of color but you get what you see oh well...

    The ASTA X7 ain't no slough so slow down on wanting to catching UGI..
    Get to know the bike, the mechanics and upgrade as things go south..

    I definitely dont plan on upgradeing now, I'll wait till I really know the bike and get a real understanding of its mechanics, I figure it will be a good learning experience for me. Question, what size frame should I get, I'm 5'11" and my pant length s around 32-34 range.

    Let me take a stab at it

    First off, as much as I love my Atlas, I'd say pass on the used Atlas Sport. Based on the type of riding you'll be doing, it is probably overkill, especially given other options you have.

    As for the Trophy Pro, it will be a great climber, and it will eat up any technical singletrack you throw at it. If you are in shape, youthful and want a lightweight bike that will be a blast to ride, this is your choice.

    The Asta Expert X.9 would be a great choice if you plan on doing more technical riding, especially smallish drops, jumps, and larger obstacles. If you're on the older side, and/or not as physically in shape as you were in your youth, the dual suspension can save a lot on your joints and bones, too. The dual suspension is also more forgiving to situations where you don't take the perfect line on a given section of trail. You'll have a much better time of "barreling through" a technical section with a full suspension rig. It is still a relatively lightweight bike, so it should climb fairly well, but it's beauty sill be in those more technical rides.

    So, read the above and make your choice based on a number of factors. The primary factor is basically "how much bike do I need?". If flowing singletrack is what you'll be doing, then the Trophy Pro is the way to go. If the trails around you are more diverse and technical, the Asta is the ticket. Both bikes have excellent component specs, and you'll not be wanting for upgrades.

    That's my take.
