    Alpine 550 2009 delayed?

I could have sworn Ibex's website said the bikes would be arriving early may and the pre-order was through april 30th, now it says the pre-order is extended through may 15th and the bikes will be arriving mid-may...

whats the point of a pre-order ibex? a person can pre-order the bike get a special price the day before the bike arrives there and wait one day? I pre-ordered the bike because I did not want to miss out on a good price for buying it early even if I had to wait. now you extend the pre-order so to me I pretty much wasted my time pre-ordering, and the week and a half I already waited gets extended into mid-may? I would have went and bought something locally if I knew I would have to wait almost a month for my bike when I was under the impression it would be 2 weeks..

    cmon seriously?

is this the start of a bad experience with IBEX?

IBEX can't control shipping from across the Pacific Ocean. SHlT happens.

I also pre-ordered so I could get in on the discount on a 330 for my son. As a business owner who buys materials from Taiwan, I have to honor commitments to customers when the boat is late even if it eats away at my profits. My feeling is that those who got in before the original date should get a further discount, either in the form of say 10% off of the price or free shipping.

Yes, this impacts their bottom line, but when you commit to a contract as they did by offering a pre-order discount, you should either: 1) not extend the deal to others or 2) give the original pre-orders a small bonus. Just because the boat didn't make it on time doesn't release them from their original commitment. But then this is my first time dealing with them. Maybe they just don't care about building and maintaining a solid reputation.

Treat one person right and they'll tell 2 of their friends. Treat them wrong and they'll tell 10!

it is now may 12th, 3 days into the second week of may and I still didnt get my bike shipped.

If I dont get my bike shipped in the first wave even thought I ordered well before May 1st and i get pushed back into the May 15th and later dates which is for people who ordered after may 1st, i don't care but im cancelling the order.

I think deeper discounts would be going overboard. I can't tell you how many times I have ordered a part from my LBS and they tell me it will be in on Tue and it doesn't show when they said it would. It's the joys of the road...or trail.

It's not the fact that it's late that bothers me. It's the fact that because it is late they've gone ahead and extended the same deal to everyone else!

Imagine waiting for a new ride at Disneyland. There is only one line and you jumped in so you could be guaranteed a ride. Then they have a mechanical problem that needs to be sorted out. In the meantime they go ahead and open up a second line. Now it doesn't matter that you stood in line for 4 hours. The people that walked up 5 minutes ago are getting the same chance at a ride that you are!

thats exactly what pissed me off...I dont mind waiting a short while for it, even though when I ordered it was set for early may not mid-may, what gets me the most is I put in my money and time to wait for the bike that early because I thought I would be given an exclusive price for pre-ordering. now that people can come in still pre-order for the same price and get the bike with a lesser wait period than me, that just seems straight up rediculous.

I don't know where that's coming from. I'm not irritated at anyone who takes advantage of an extended deal, I'm only irritated with the proprietors of that deal.

At least at Disney World, when they had unforeseen problems when I was there, they had staff come through line passing out free fast-passes for that ride if people didn't want to wait any longer. They have excellent Customer Service because they DO want people to come back!

also technically others woulnt be getting the shaft, they had the same oppurtunity to pre-order at the time i did, IBEX had a clear pre-order deadline april 30th, you either pre-ordered before then or you paid full price, it would be your own doing for not pre-ordering by their deadline.

Im just really anxious to get my bike, I have been riding a cheapo mongoose that doesn't shift correctly, and I am enjoying spending a day out in the trails.

but, "We expect to ship these out the second week of May. All pre-orders will be shipped within 2-days of the bikes' arrival... probably the same day they arrive at our warehouse." thats directly from Ibex, so I too expect to have my bike this week considering I am within Fedex's 2 day shipping zone from Georgia.

With the economy in it's present state, it's always good to see people with tight budgets get a chance to ride..I can only give away so much before I run out of components to share with deserving folks..

Considering the two to three people running IBEX, I'd have to say they do a jam up job..Far from perfect it is..But far better than most..

So kudos to the crew at IBEX....

I agree with Jake. Why are you worried that others (fellow mtbrs) are getting a good deal also? It doesn't change what you paid for the bike. Getting your panties in a bunch and talking about cancelling your order is pretty lame.

From what I read, they are sending out the bike on a first come first serve basis as they come in, so you are still "at the head of the line" so your disney analogy doesn't really make sense. It's more like they are still letting people get in line behind you for the same deal, so you should just be happy for others getting a good deal on a great bike, and happy for a company that can offer such great deals on great bikes...

But friggin ichin to get that new ride!

Here's hoping for the those boats to move swiftly!

28lbs w/o pedals doesn't inlcude the wheels and tires. Add them and the bike weighs 40lbs. The other 5lbs is the packaging.

Yea, got my tracking number just as I was shopping for alternative bikes for my son, since he keeps asking me if it's on it's way yet. We sold his only other bike, a top of the line Redline BMX racer to finance this purchase. And I had timed everything for the April 30th ship date, so he's been without a bike for 2 weeks.

I'm not too worried about quality since the 2 kids mountain bikes recommended the most everywhere I searched, were the Ibex Alpine 320 and the Scott Scale Jr. 2.0. I figure it should be comparable with the Scott quality-wise since they are both made overseas. The Ibex has a better overall package and price, the Scott has slightly better components in some areas (my opinion only) but is much more expensive. Although, it is available through my local REI (10% dividend, no questions asked return policy).

Huh...I don't know of any "complete bike" that is weighed without wheels and tires. They are listed as part of the buildup so should be included. The Ibex web site states "Weight: 23.5 lbs.*w/o pedals" for the Alpine 320. But, my FedEx tradking states 38 lbs.! So you are trying to say that there is 9.5 lbs. worth of wheels and tires? If you are right about that, it will be a quick trip back to Ibex since the Scott weighs around 25 lbs. with the pedals (and wheels and tires)!

i think its so much weight because of the box and packaging, I also ordered the water bottle + cage, air pump + bracket, and saddle bag. the bike comes with tolls to build the bike so theres some more weight. the bike is 28lbs without pedals pedals are what 2-3 lbs each? so thats another 6 lbs..

conifer when did you pre-order your bike? and then when was it shipped? was it the alpine 550 also?

I'd have to look back through my emails. I believe it was about the 24th of April. Shipment Tracking number was sent May 13th.

I ordered the Alpine 320 (Kid Size).

My 08 alpine 550 was 30.35 lbs as delivered ready to ride with pedals and without reflectors. Spend a few bucks on good tires and you got a lb easy right there. The cranks are fine. I've had zero issues.

Stop worryin and feelin buyers remorse! Bang for the buck you got the best deal out there and nothing on the bike is going to fail unless of course you really abuse the bike like I did .

You will need to learn bike repair and maintenance, but that's half the fun of owning an ibex.

oficially done with IBEX, this will be my first and last bike I buy from them.

I got my tracking number on wednesday read delivery date may 15th, I check it now and it has JUST now been picked up from IBEX's wharehouse and has a delivery date of May 18th...

thats it IBEX first the pre-order fiasco now this, there is no reason why the bike had to sit at your wharehouse for 2 days.

another weekend missed for riding bikes.

No, actually I researched bikes starting the first of March when my son told me he didn't want to race BMX anymore. I added the Ibex to my cart several times during the month of April but didn't pull the trigger until around the 24th because I knew the deadline to order was the 30th. (As did anyone else who had intentions of getting the discount.) For you to assume that "I want everything within reach for my kid and I want it NOW!" is both naive and insulting. As I said, I knew when the original cutoff was and decided to order a week before for my own convenience.

And, that is why I timed the sale of my son's BMX bike on eBay with the original ship date of the Ibex. But, since the bikes were delayed, he has had to wait 2 weeks without a bike to ride. That is bearable for most adults, but much harder for a 6 year old. If I want something NOW, I'll pay a premium and get it. Just because I don't agree with the way Ibex handled THIS particular deal doesn't mean I'm not going to like the bike when I get it. And Just because I'm not an Ibex FANBOY like some in this forum doesn't mean I won't respect the people who run Ibex at some point in the future.

I don't spend alot of time in forums like this because I'm usually out riding rather than staring at a computer. I've been a member of mtbr.com for a while and usually I can glean the information I need without jumping in on ongoing conversations. In this case I saw what I perceived as an unfair situation and decided to comment on it since I was in the same boat. (How many of the FANBOYS commenting were actually waiting for a bike? My bet is none.) You mentioned before that "Probably wouldn't even be checking the site any longer." after I receive the bike. In this case that's probably true of this forum but not the site. I see nothing constructive or supporting of fellow members here. Why should I hang around? I'd rather be out riding with my son.
