Rentals in Maui? (And ride advice)

Is there any place to rent a real mountain bike? What about trails? Are they open to bikes? Any good?

I know nothing about Maui except that I'm psyched to go there in August. I can't believe I'm almost 40 and I've never been to Hawaii until now.

I like to try and ride everywhere I travel, and it seems like Maui would have some fun trails if they're open to bikes.

Island biker Maui rents Specialized Rockhopper and Enduro bikes, they have a few of the trails listed on their site and in some shops there is a trail guide/map you can buy.

Check out Paul at Crater Cycles in Kahului. He's got a pretty good rental fleet, and you might even be able to hook up with him for a Friday ride down Haleakala which is unbelievable.

Crater cycles would be my first choice. The other guy has a rep. for attitude.Makawao forest reserve is by far the best. From xc to dirt jump, with plenty of could miss the best trails without someone to show you around. It tends to rain there so if its too saturated we go to polipoli state park in kula . Definitely ride the Mamane loop in the morning ,it usually gets cloudy by 10 oclock.
