Bought this bike on a whim, need help identifying

Went to the LBS today and they had this laying around. All I know is its a Shift R7. Does anyone know what year it might be? I paid $150 for it on a whim. Hope it's worth it. Now time for some components.

My best guess is a 2005, but I doubt the fork is original.

In your honest opinion, is 150 a decent price for it?

Yeah, unfortunately it can't stay like that, chain growth prevents that. Already got XT rd, and XT front and rear shifters for it. Coming together piece by piece. I'm a newb to building and don't exactly which style front derailleur I need. Also anyone have any suggestions for a good chain that won't break the wallet? With the bike purchase and the used components I have just $208 in to it. I am hoping to stay under $300 for the whole build.

YES you got an absolute steal! this bike was about 1400 MSRP new. I'm quite Jealous, in fact. Judging by the style of the decals, i'd say it was around a 2008, like my Shift R3. I got my R3 at a going-out-of-business sale for $375, and that was a super deal.
