[Doubt] Rear shock of Sonix VL120

    Hi!

    I'm a happy owner of a Haro Sonix VL120.

However I have a technical doubt.

Due to a problem on the rear shock installed (RS Ario 2.2 :: 190mm) the shop had to change it during warranty, by a RS Monarch 3.3 with 215mm (!) because a problem of stock availability.

(I notice that the bike is little bit higher, but didn't change very must is behavior on the trails)

What could be the consequences of this change?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

    Regards,

    Ricardo

Welcome to the Haro forum Ricardo.

Are you saying the eye to eye on the shock went from 190 to 215 MM??

    Thanks for your reply.

    Yes, that's correct.

The "eye to eye" distance went from the 190mm (old shock) to 215mm (new one).

25mm is a big jump in length especially on a XC bike. The head tube angle will make for tight slow speed corners but you will sacrifice high speed stability and skittish cornering. My take on their reasoning is they didnt want to deal with the international BS. You should email Haro direct about this for a true answer.

    downhilljill,

My sonix VL120 was bought new in 2008. The frame and the shock are both are still in warranty period.

However my problem is focused on the shock namely the possible problems on the behavior of the ride, as well, consequences on the frame to have a 215mm shock (eye to eye distance) installed.

Hmmm sounds like rear shocks i2i is a bit long. you need a 190mm i2i on the SonixVL120

If you have a 2008 Sonix, you will need to stick with the 190mm shock. 215mm is too long and will make the bike ride funky...not to mention void your warranty.

215? That thing probably has a longer shock stroke also so the wheel travel increased... another reason you've voided the frame warranty now.
