WTF?!!! GT Xizang 26" branded as 9r!
Guys, hello, my name is Justin, I'm from South Africa and have been lurking here for a while.
this story made me register to see what the hell,is going on!
i bought a GT Xizang frame last year at a great price - $500 NOS. It was on offer by a local distributor. I asked for a 26" as they had stock of both, but a 29" was sent up, at that price I said cool I'll take it, but get the 26" sent as well.
time went by and I contacted the distributor and the 26" had been sold. he had an old demo Xizang 9r complete for a song so I bought that.
I dropped my Xizang frame and tired complete Xizang for a build over and some upgrades to my LBS. They called me today to say that the '9r' frame was in fact a 26" frame!! What gives? Has anyone heard of this happening before?
Is is there any value to it, or maybe a claim with GT? I'm just curious , you know like the Jack Daniels with the upside down labels being valuable?
Its the the most bizarre thing...
please shed he'd some light if you know of this happening before???
I will take some pics next week at LBS with two frames side by side.
having a 9r sticker on it doesn't make it valuable...but just being a 26er does, they are kind of sort after.
I just can't believe they were being sold on sale, when at the time they made them, GT couldn't actually supply any and didn't seem to know where they went. I tried to buy one, but GT could sell me one...seems they all went to SA to dissappear and be sold on sale... good work GT you dumbo's

Cant really see a sticker making it worth more.
This is a 87 performer with the tt cap welded on backwards.(inside facing out)
Something like this would make a SLIGHT difference.
On a 2k $ mtb frame that would be called a defect.

Ignore them till they go away. It's corporate policy.
It was a weird marketing decision, especially seeing as though the US market is so big.

The Xizang doesn't have decals though - these are kind of printed on the frame if you know what I mean? see the image with the scratch on Xizang logo
