Like others have mentioned, there are 3 places on the GT frame that can creak.
Since I was creaking, I did my pivots with help from ehansens007 thread I-Drive Pivots Maintenance. Easy with the right tools.
I'm riding my GT more, and have done very little to it, so I decided to service the dropouts as a precaution. Also easy. I recommend picking up a chainring tool if you don't already have one. This is used on the "nut" side of dropout retention bolts which are a 5mm allen.
