Thanks for the replies ... yay...looks like a Hodge Podge of parts. Well...it will all be in pieces soon enough and be rebuilt into something to my own preference.

I picked the bike up for $320 which included a brand new pair of Shimano hydraulic disc brakes & rotors (never got installed).

    Looks like a fair deal.

Post up the serial number and if you find any info on the frame itself (stickers and such), like frame material, size, etc.

    Have fun !

I'd say at least a 2.0 (2000) or 1.0 (1000) . Definitely 99ish early 2000's. The front derrailleur was a stub on the higher models. If you look at a pic of a 4.0 or 4000 you will see that the front derrailleur was mounted on the front tube of the rear triangle. The XTR crank makes more sense than the vanilla shock.

It does have the front derailleur "stub". I am guessing the rear shock was replaced with the cheaper Fox coil that is on their now. Should be a good build project

My 2000 doesnt have the seat post support like that. I thought the 2001+ had that new single hole reinforcement and I thought the pre 2000 didn't have the rear disc tabs either!

    Really ?

Anyway, the original design from 1999 had that hole in the seat post support and they all had rear disc brake tabs, maybe except for the team version which only used v's since it was race-ready for the lightest weight possible.

My model year 2000 XCR 3000 was with the disc brake tabs, stylish seat tube and without the stub for the fd.

I guess I have a 1999 XCR 3000 I was mistaken.. But I know my seat post support is like this one pictured and doesn't have rear disc tabs. His definitely isn't a 1999 it has to be 2000+

Would love to see more pics of your Karakoram. Looks great! I assume you added the disc tabs and powdercoated?

Thank you. I bought the fame locally and posted up a photo to try and get an ID on the model in this thread: GT Frame Identification Help Requested ('94 GT Karakoram)

Turns out the original owner (gt jorgito) is a forum member and identified it. He actually had the disc tabs welded on and powder coated it. I'm the beneficiary of his genius.

gt jorgito explains how he aligned the tabs in post #68 of this thread: 1994 GT Karakoram - SS Build-Up
