    My Gt's

I have owned these 2 bikes since 2001. The year GT was sold to Pacific. I bought these bikes when we weren't certain what Pacific would do with the brand. I got these bikes on closeout from Supergo, and they were the best purchases I think I have ever made. I have done alot of updates to both and I baby them.

Didn't really matter because Schwinn had already started the damage in 99 and ruined them by then

Purchased a used 2002 Specialized HardRock to get back in to cycling, it was too beat up so I purchased a new Trek 3700SE figuring since it was new it would be able to handle single track, turns out I was thrashing it after less than a month. Sold it to a close friend and purchased a new GT Avalanche 3.0!!!! I know it might be an entry level cycle but for only 10$ more than my Trek it is FAR superior! I love every second I'm on it.

    1993 Team Avalanche

A recent acquisition/project in the works and very close to getting it back to original.. First want to thank Linoleum for agreeing to part with this one. It's a 1993 GT Team Avalanche. Tig Welded and US built from True Temper AVR frame tubing. This was the last steel framed Avalanche/Team Avalanche that GT offered and is probably the rarest because in 1993 the industry experienced the explosion in aluminum offerings and that year the Avalanche model became the Avalanche AL and GT kept the Team Avalanche as a steel bike. This was my missing link to completing the GT Avalanche/Team Avalanche steel collection from 1988-1993. When I received this one it was wearing a 98 Indy for but I had the correct model year original Bologna Lite in inventory so switched it back to catalogue spec. The bike is full M900 XTR with M231 rims. Rich tells me it had obviously seen some sun because the "Team" top tube decals had turned white. The frame color is great but it's Imron so one would expect that to hold up well to sun. Many of the black ano parts like the headset, seat post and stem looked polished on the drive side due to the sun and original black on the left side. I have an original black post on the way for it and will be switching the tires back to the original Smoke/Dart combo.
    Enjoy.

I know this is for MTB but GT sure turned out some sweet road bikes. This was a limited edition paint job for the olympics. GT Edge Aluminum. 1996 model, I believe.

Correction...that was a stock color in the 1997 catalog page 65 upper right hand corner not a limited edition job for the Olympics. The Olympics were in 96. Most of the National road bike road race frames were produced as Edge steel frames out of True Temper or Reynolds tubing. The Aero aluminum versions similar to yours were produced in the RWB with stars for track, TT and Triathletes.
Did you pick up that frame on So. Cal. craigs a year or so back at a good price?

This is what the 1999 road race national team frames looked like...serial number USACYC990006

Just picked this up on Craigslist yesterday for only 50$!! and all it needed was some air in the tires and to be tuned up!
    2001 GT I-Drive 6.0:

Scouring craigslist meticulously has finally paid off for me! Admittedly she has seen better days, but she has much better days ahead.
    Planning on getting:
-RS Tora 302 U turn fork
-New brakes and shifters (has acera level components)
-1x9 setup (I despise front derailleurs)
-Some slightly wider tires. I'm thinking WTB Mutano Raptors. I dig how they look and use to have them on my old MTB
-Maybe a new rear shock (But I have no idea what kind to get, or what is even compatible, I'm new to the whole rear suspension thing)

Here is the current state of my GT Peace. Weight is 20.6 lbs. I have replaced everything with the exception of the frame and chain. New chain is on the way along with a larger chainring (gotta step it up this spring....a little anyway). Going to a 33t from a 32t.

    Frame: GT Peace 26" med
Fork: White Brothers Rock Solid 445
Wheels: Velocity VXC rims, White Industries Eno Hubs, Trials Freewheel
Tires: Conti Super Sonic Race King
    HS: Cane Creek (S8???)
    Stem: Ritchey WCS
Bars: Race Face Next 3/4" rise cut down
Brakes: BB7 with Ti bolt kit
Rotors: KCNC w/ ti rotor bolts
Levers: TR (off ebay) 71 grams for the pair
Cables: Aligator i-Link (waiting on second set to arrive so I can do the front)
    Seatpost: KCNC Ti-Pro
    Saddle: Merek full carbon
    Seat clamp: Gussett
    Cranks: Modded/ceramic coated XTR M960
    Pedals: Frogs
    Grips: ESI
    Barends: KCNC

Think that is about it! I can't seem to locate the most recent picture of the bike but the levers have been swapped out as well as the grips and seat clamp. Thinking about tearing the while bike apart and painting the frame black. Then again, I am also thinking about socking some money away and looking for a Med Zaskar frame in black some time this summer. I will have to run an EBB to keep it an SS but it should still come out lighter than the current set up.

Found the first pictured Peace 9r on page 11 post #545. I was starting to get worried there. Seems almost like you have to have a full suspension, Zaskar or Avalanch to post in this thread. Lots of nice bikes here for sure. Been through all 21 pages of this thread now and all I am thinking is that I need to get my hands on an 09 Zaskar frame or a newer carbon one!

21 pages you missed the first 150 or so that got cut off. You haven't seen the majority of the great bikes that were 10+ years old. What you see mostly here now are "niche" bikes not mountain bikes.

I hear you! I know there are alot more out there! I am happy with mine though. Well, actually, I am wanting a new frame (something a little nicer) but making the jump to a 29r will require a new fork and wheelset so this is not a cheap/quick decision at this point.

Thought about picking up a new SS 29r and then just swaping all my parts and rolling on the stock wheels/fork for the short term but I really want something with slider dropouts this time around. Not sure what I will end up with but plan on riding the bike as it is this season and then worrying about all this upgrading crap over next winter.

My 2010 GT Zaskar Elite - first new ride to get back into riding. Picked it up from Performance today. It was a bit more then I wanted to spent on a bike - but I wanted something that should last me a long time.

    2009 GT Avalanche 2.0

This is my oldest son's bike - a XS-sized 2009 carry-over model that we bought last year from Performance Bicycle on clearance for just $251 after discounts. It was a V-brake model originally to which we added a new yet crazy inexpensive Mavic CrossRide wheelset plus some used take-off parts I had; Kenda K-831 Dual Sport 26x2.2 tires, Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes, and a TruVativ Five-D crankset (run 1x8 with a Paul Components Chain Keeper). His take off parts - Alex V-brake wheels, Tektro brakes and Shimano crankset - go onto my vacation bike.

I would have done nearly anything to have a bike even remotely like this when I was a kid. Shoot, I would have done backflips to have a bike this nice just a couple of years ago! Complete with a nice hydraulic lock-out fork, this bike is far better than what you could buy from the nearby Trek store for more than twice what we have in it.

With all their computers and game consoles and iPods, kids these days don’t know how good they’ve got it.

    99 Backwoods

Used to have a specialized rockhopper...it was stolen. Got a 99 backwoods from a friend for free. Fork was shot, everything else was in working order but not in the best shape so I did a rebuild...here are the results:

Taken it on a few rides so far in the foothills of Fort Collins, CO and I must say it is a nice ride. Much smoother than my rockhopper ever was of course it had a crappy dart fork...

    Components:
    Manitou Minute Expert 80mm fork
    SRAM x7 drivetrain
    Avid Elixr R brakes

    Gt Zaskar

GT Zaskar 90/91 20" Anodized black, fork carbon & magnesium Pace, wheels rare Spinergy carbon, Shimano Deore XT

So it's a part that I found on ebay for U.S.
misery a few years ago, it was new, never mounted,
    surprisingly no!
I understood why later, this framework was a small
workmanship hidden, I found it almost impossible to
back seat tube, I think it should come
weld around the tube that were not correct or
    check once it is completed.
After grinding everything is in order and telling me well,
as I wanted an original, I strip them of
all documents and materials for making grommet anodized
black making it a unique setting, the only major
error to my taste, just the fork, it is perfect,
but not long hair, it kills the line?
I do not know how to interpret the Serial no: 06922884
We can say that this is a first hand, what chance
    I have.
I would do best picture and the sun that I would
    more on my crutches.
Thank you for your beautiful photos, and if there is ever a Xyzang
19 "or 20" available, please let me know.

Unless you anodized it yourself it would be a late 92 production 93 model year frame because GT wasn't playing with any frame anodizing until the middle of 92 when working on the 93 model year.
Needed: 26.8mm XTR seatpost, blue GT/Grundig Jersey.

Yeah, it's me that is made to anodizing, it was gray aluminum.
I do not know the exact year, but here is the serial no: 06922884, maybe June 1992?

I just got mine today from Bikes Direct. Im not crazy about the color of the decals but i love this bike. It is so smooth and the big wheels eat up anything. I'm looking to get a suspension fork. How are you liking that Tora? Here is my 2010 Peace 9'r.

That looks great. Is it 80 or 100mm travel? If 100m have you noticed a difference in handling?

The 2009 and 2010 Peace 9r have horizontal dropouts (previously used an EBB). The Peace 9r Multi's are geared with vertical dropouts.

This was my first mountain bike and first GT. Bought it brand new in 1996 and it's stock except for the tires (originals had dry rot), pedals, and saddle. Other than that, it is exactly as I got it way back then. It is just a normal Zaskar, not a LE. Has full XT, except for the hubs which are a GT Machine type.

I have a 2000 gt zaskar... everything is stock.... need some advice from GT people

I see the weak points as the old formula hydraulic brakes and the old rockshox judy race fork... the brakes are on the fritz and definately need replaced

I want to put avid bb7 mech. disc brakes on it and a different fork... can anyone give me a recommendation of a good fork that will fit? I am about 210 lb and ride trails with small obstacles... I do not know that much about forks so I am really lost on which ones to look at... want to spend about $150 on the brakes and $300ish on the fork but I can keep the fork if a newer one in the price range wont get me much better.

Also is there anything I should be aware of when putting these brakes on the bike? I was thinking about putting a 185 rotor on front and back... right now there is 140 on back and 160 on front.... will this work?

a 160mm disc is enough man. putting anything larger on the front might put too much pressure on your headtube since the frame wasn't meant to have that size of disc on it. You can get a sweet deal on a slightly used fox fork for $300 bucks, you just gotta find the deal. Any fork from rock shox, Fox, Marzocchi, Manitou at that price limit is going to be a great fork. Make sure you keep the fork around 80mm or 100mm at the most. the 100 is cutting it close to really changing the geometry of the bike and may handle weird. I recommend a fox f80 if you can get one. good luck and hope this helps.
Still loving my GT's!! find me on the "GT Bike Group" page on FB. I hardly ever hang out in here anymore.

I also have a GT Zaskar X from 2000. I replaced the Judy with a Rock Shox Duke XC 80mm, and Avid bb7's. Both have been great. The Duke XC is now near the end of its life, so I found an NOS 2009 Fox F100. The Zaskar X has a more relaxed geometry than the standard Zaskar so the 100mm fork shouldn't cause any issues (I think the original Judy was adjustable from 80mm - 120mm, but I may be remembering incorrectly). Trail riding the Zaskar X for years, now racing it for the last three, and loving it.

As far as front shocks go, in 80mm or 100mm, you can find great deals in the $300 - $400 if you look around. I would bet a Rock Shox Reba would be great. I found the 2009 Fox F100 for $399 NOS. A Fox F80 or F100 would be great. I've also heard that if you can find the older 2008 Rock Shox Reba Race it was a great fork for the price. The Recon came stock on some of the nicer Zaskars of the last 3 years or so. I've also heard the newer Manitou Minutes are nice, but I don't have any experience.

I just bought the bb7 brakes and a manitou r7 pro fork... I hope both will work out good... the fork is a new 2010 model for $310 out the door... so that is a pretty fair deal hopefully. I hope it will be a good enough fork for my 210lb frame. Thanks for the advice guys.

Our bikes are the same year so I'd expect they would have the same BB measurements. I don't have a pair of calipers but the shell width was right about 3", which I guess makes it likely to be 73mm.

If you're curious about tire clearance on the rear, the Saguaro 2.2 is pretty close but I think I could go slightly bigger. The Ardent 2.4 might fit back there.

see mine measures 2 3/4" exactly so that puts mine around 70 mm's which is a problem

Interesting. I tried to be more careful taking the following measurement, but I don't have a more precise ruler. It looks to be a little over 2 13/16" but less than 2 7/8". It seems unlikely that the Peace would actually use a 70mm shell.

It seems to be much closer to 73mm than to 68mm, so that's what I would guess.

Here's my 09 Aggressor. Its nothing special but it has handled everything I've thrown at it for the past 2 years. My new toy is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, a 2010 Avalanche 1.0 disk. I've fallen in love with GT and won't ever go with another brand again. Can't wait to get it out on the trails.

My medium Peace 9r Multi weighs around 30-31 lbs.

The Saguaro/Ardent are lighter than the stock wire bead Wolverines and saved about 3/4 lb while adding some cush to the ride. The flat bar is a few oz lighter than the stock riser but the added bar ends cancel the savings.

If I wanted to further lighten the bike I'd probably start with the hubs and rims. The stock fork weighs 3lbs so there are lots of lighter options. The Deore drivetrain is probably relatively heavy too. I'm having too much fun riding it as is to go replacing working parts though.

heyitsmebob, how do you like the new, up-sized tire combo on your Force?

    Daddy duty

I'm amazed at how clean the bikes I see on here are! Here's the old workhorse .... My first aluminum bike, the Pantera doing daddy duty. Nothing fancy ......stx mostly, lx brake/shifters, cane creek direct pulls and the old girvin. Dirty and ugly, but gettin' it done for many years now. It's due to be reconfigured, along with my other 5 GT's. I'lll post'em up as I go ........

Here is an update on my 2001 GT Idrive 6.0 that I scored for 50$ originally with all the stock components.
Well here it is a few months later, Many upgrades:
-RS Tora 302 85-135mm Uturn fork
    -Fox Float Rear shock
    -Deore XT Rd
    -Deore XT Crankset
-Shimano Gripshifter (only rear, 1x8 setup)
    -Wellgo DH pedals
    -Sette Venn seatpost
    -WTB rocket V saddle
    -WTB Wolverine 2.2 tires
    -ESI chunky black grips
    -FSA Gravity bars
    -XTR V brakes

Wheelset is next on the upgrade list.

(for when it gets mucky out, rear fender was improvised from a broken old front one)

    GT Ava 3.0

here's the wife's little GT; I saw it was mentioned in this thread before how difficult it was to find a bike that'll suit someone nudging 5 ft and weighing about 90+lbs...and it was!

finally found one at our lone LBS here; she's on a mix of Alivio, Acera and Suntour components (fork is an XCM, tires are now Michelin XC AT's, brakes are now Shimano non-series).
I sometimes take her out on the trails here (when wifey's still asleep) and the bike's really a spirited rig!
(I'm only a shade over 5 ft so it fits me fine)

will upgrade as things break or wear out, but for now, she'll run well with our little family
(we currently have a road bike, an MTB SS, another MTB slowly being built up from spares and this blue girl)

Here's a 2001 GT Aggressor 2.0 I purchased and cleaned up (added a few small 'upgrades'). This bike was part of a project to assemble an entry level XC MTB for a friend for less than $100.

Total came to $99 including the bike and purchased parts.

New GT's for Son and Dad

My sons b-day yesterday, just turned 9, so I thought I would post a pic of his present. A 2010 GT Stomper 24" along with my 2010 GT Sanction 1.0. I actually bought his bike on clearance for a good price back in January and kept it hidden, plus the 2010 model looks cooler than the 2011. Looking foward to riding the trails with him.

I wish I was riding a bike like that when I was 9, instead of a Monarch Star, or my Graecross.
I bet he was stoked, good on ya Dad.
