1996 Avalanche ..upgraded all the way through 2008.

After 12 years on this bike, I just ordered a 2008 Marathon Team. The only stock part left is the frame... although I did go out of my way to find a few vintage components (96 Judy SL bought in 2006 and 97 Cook Bros Cranks bought in 2007).

Here's a rare shot it from 2003 with Spin Wheels and a Manitou Black.

    2007 GT idrive 5 3.0

Well I finally took some pics and thought I'd finally join in on the GT post. Its been over 20+ years since my last GT, which was a GT performer I built from scratch. I just got back into mountain bikes from a 15 year layoff and I've have been riding a friends hard tail up until 2 and half months ago when I bought the GT. All I can say is its a blast. Super plush ride and it bombs down hills!!!

I want a 56cm but frame only. I can put the stuff from my current Motobecane Grand Sprint frame on it and be very happy. Upgrades can come later. My Motobecane is a pretty light frame but I really want the matching set of Mountain and road bike. I have the I-drive Team already, just need the ZR.

Wow! There are a lot of great bikes in this thread. Reminds of exactly why I love GT so much.

    Here's my '01 Zaskar Team:

Right now I'm in the process of putting on some Avid BB7 discs. Just waiting for the shifter pods and brake levers.

    Marathon Team

After riding a 1996 GT Avalanche for 12 years, I upgraded to the Marathon Team. I've never had this much fun on a bike. I feel like I've been hauling around a boat anchor riding that old hard-tail.

    1997 GT Zaskar
The best first wedding anniversary gift ever if you ask me. The Spin rims and XTR cassette were my father’s day gift to me the next year. The last pieces I added were the new bars and seat post last year. As I work to finish getting it ready to play outside again I have realized that the rear brake might be beyond saving at this point. I hate to give up on it after only 10 years of use.

Stock Shimano XT 8 speed components with the following upgrades:
    - Spin rims with XTR 12-32 cassette
    - Rock Shox Judy XC upgraded to Speedspring spring kit
    - IRC Mythos XC tires
    - Selle Italia Pro Link gel saddle
    - Xpedo Mag Force Mag/Cr Platform Cast Pedals
    - Race Face Deus XC low riser bars with Cane Creek lock on grips
    - Thomson Elite seat post

Future upgrades I’d like to do when I’m done with my current build:
    - '08 Rock Shox Sid Team fork
    - Chris King headset
    - Thomson Elite 130mm stem with 5 degree rise
    - Paul Motolite linear pull break on front wheel
    - Kenda Smallblock 8 2.1 DTC tires
    - Shimano XT 9 speed shifter/brake lever combo right side only
    - Race Face Evolve crankset
    - Shimano XT 9 speed derailleur
    - Shimano XTR 9 speed 12-34 cassette

The 9 speed conversion might take some time but the fork, headset, and stem will be later this fall.

Whats up guys. Heres my GT-STS-DH. I wanted to keep it with the original brakes but the guy at my bike shop said he was not familiar with these so I replaced the front brakes and now the rear is frozen. I need to find some type of adapter for the rear as for this frame came with no rear V-Brake set up. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
