Nashbar Frame Sale 7-20-2012 to 7-22-2012

Nashbar has some sales on certain GT frames at the moment. Certainly not as a great deal as those from last year, but still great deals nonetheless.

These nashbar frames do not come w/ a rear shock and Nashbar does not have the info. Anyone know the rear shock eye-to-eye measurements? Is it 7.875x2.0?

Dammit, missed out on a sanction in my size. Got a copper force instead.

Got a ruckus during last years frame sale, and I love the hell out of it. It'll be nice to build something lighter now.

The ruckus frame I got from them last year didn't come with the shock bushing hardware, so I doubt that they will this year.

Nashbar is notorious for selling out of stock frames etc. I tried to buy a zaskar expert just recently, The website took my order, emailed me a confirmation, which told me it was shipping, then cancelled.

They often have their head up their a** on these big sales. It's not the first time it's happened to me. Usually if you don't get tracking by 2 days after ordering, you have to call to find out if you're going to actually get it. Chances are it's no and if you don't call to find out they won't bother to notify you for possibly weeks later. If the pending charge expires on your method of payment before it clears, you aren't getting your goodies.

So nice of them to get you all excited then PSYCH! No Frames for YOU...Thanks bike Nazi-bar! Oh and thanks again for that fiasco with the stolen credit info 3 years ago which made me & a billion other customers of yours cancel their cards and get new ones. At least I was lucky and no fake charges got through alot of people weren't so lucky. Nashbar is still sketchy at best. Good deals if you can actually get them and even if you do sometimes there are issues.

Sometimes they send returned/used/open merchandise as new (happened a few times) or they don't ship it by the method you picked. I asked for 2day, chgd for 2day, sent ground, have to call, then wait for refund. Happens A LOT! I'm a sucker for a good deal, so I deal with the bad for the good, but sometimes it doesn't feel worth it. Jenson has never let me down ever. I try to get gear there with price match/free ship first.

Yep, I was so geeked! I found killer component deals and pretty much had it built in my head with a mix of mid level components totalling under $700.

Of course that was with a lowbuck carbon rigid fork. With a good susp fork presto $1000-$1200. Which is still well below bikepedia's msrp of $2000 for 09 Zaskar expert alloy.

Most of my spec'd components were equal to or better than stock too. I have been waiting for a killer deal on a pearl white frame for sooo looong. Cue the muted trumpet bummer sound: Bwaaww, Bwaaww, Bwaaaawww...

Wow, that'd unfortunate. I'd be pretty pissed.

But my force frame is set to arrive tomorrow. And I have never had any issues with nashbar, and have ordered from them numerous times (10+)

Did they give you a tracking number or just tell you that it drop shipped? If you actually got a tracking number you are good to go.

If they say it's drop shipping that means it wasn't in stock, and they're hoping the manufacturer or wholesaler can or will ship one. They will tell you what you want to hear, but if your frame isn't actually shipping from their warehouse, good luck. Your chances are slim. ***See Edit Below***

As I said earlier, if you don't get tracking after a couple of days, you're most likely not going to get your frame. It can take weeks for them to tell you whether it's actually drop shipping or they're cancelling the order.

I'm not trying to be a killjoy here, just giving you my experience, so expectations can be tempered. To those who haven't had any Nashbar issues, Keep ordering. I do. BUT the laws of probability will catch up to you.

***Edit Note*** 7/2712 My above earlier opinion has changed. From personal experience, I thought that any frame drop shipping was not in stock and was unlikely to actually be delivered . With new info in later posts, My opinion now is that most if not all of the sale frames were planned to be drop shipped. At this point, I'm still skeptical that all frames will be delivered.

Who has gotten their frame, and what was your experience?

I'd like the people who have actually received their frames to speak up and tell us how long it took after you were notified (or not) of shipping. I'm curious if most of these frames are being drop shipped as opposed to direct shipped from the Nashbar warehouses, and how long the actual process is taking.

Is anyone that's been told of a drop ship (or told it was shipped with no tracking) actually getting a frame? If you did get your frame what was the approximate period of time from ordering to receiving it?

If people are actually getting frames, then the prices might be worth the wait, but if most of the "dropped shipped" frames are actually "dropped orders" Then it's all a GiAnT MiNd F***.

So to those out there who got a frame after it was "drop shipped" (if there are any) Lend a hand to those who tried or are trying to get a frame, Please help your brother and sister bikers while they're stranded in 'NaShBaR FrAmE SaLe LiMbO" (he said with a deep echoing voice)

Thanks for posting. I'm curious what it says in your order status @ Nashbar.

In the Item detail, does it say "charges below reflect merchandise shipped", or something like that?

In that same box, under the item description, does it say "in stock" or "item currently unavailable"?

If it still says "in stock" you probably have less worries. If you don't get tracking very soon, I suspect that most all of these frames are being drop shipped from a wholesaler, or GT, or whoever actually manufactures the frames for GT.

If Nashbar's plan is for all or most of the frames to be drop shipped, the chance of getting a frame is better, but the time frame will still s**k major. Also when stuff gets drop shipped, the retailer (Nashbar in this case) usually has very little info for the customer. They know not much more than us about the frames status.

Unless people start telling me differently, (that they got a frame & how long it took) I theorize that most frame buyers are going to have to wait the better part of a month before they either get a frame or get cancelled/refunded. NO Fun...

Well it appears I misunderstood my tracking info, all of the order except for the frame arrived yesterday. I called nashbar up like "what's the dealio?" And the lady assured me that it shipped out from "our warehouse" on tuesday, and I should expect to receive it in 7-10 business days from the ship date. She did not know what method of shipment was used (Ups, FedEx, DHL) but, she was pretty adamant that it DID ship out. so we will see. We will see if patience and optimism prevails and is rewarded.

Right now everything on the website says it has shipped, just no tracking info. I remember when I got my ruckus frame last year, the frame did ship separately, and took 3 or 4 days longer than the rest of my shipment

Edit: Was able to look back at last years purchase tracking info, and the frame i ordered then shipped from an entirely different place. Shipped from Champaign, IL, while all the other nashbar orders shipped from North Jackson, OH. So it is likely that they are not shipping from nashbar themselves, they just didnt bother with tracking info this time around.

Ok, so I believe that is the same email that everyone who's frame is going to be drop shipped is getting... So this reinforces my belief that most or all these frames are to be drop shipped.... The waiting has begun.

I'm still curious what it says on your nashbar order status/item detail? If your item is still in stock, that further reinforces that all or most frames are to drop ship.

Have the charges completed from your payment method? The reason I ask is Nashbar only puts through the charge if they consider the item shipped. In this case, they consider it shipped when they initiate the drop ship. Unfortunately, that doesn't change my opinion that it could take up to a month to get a frame, IF they don't cancel.

Hopefully soon, more people are going to post that they got their frames, then everyone will know better what their chances are. Thanks for the input.

For clarification, I'm going to edit one of my earlier post with a this info.

I can't get account info. Nashbar isn't recognizing my log on and I ordered by phone. I'm in no hurry with delivery.... Just hope I get the frame. Gathering parts may take awhile. I'll keep you updated.

Buggy thanks for the input. I hope your patience and optimism is rewarded. I guess I have been pessimistic in my posts in this thread, but it comes from experience. I agree with your assessment, that they're shipping from somewhere else. Shipping from a manufacturer or wholesaler with the retailer as the middleman is known as "Drop Shipment"

Drop Shipment usually means no tracking, I'm surprised you actually got tracking last year. The problem with drop shipping is that you're adding another variable to the process. Often the manufacturer or wholesaler inventory numbers are incorrect, or their shipment methods are suspect. I know this because it's my job everyday to deal with it. Stuff is more likely to be lost or broken or just plain not there with drop shipping. Basically it's much more of a crapshoot. When Nashbar drop ships, they are out of the loop and all they can tell their customer is what the shipper tells them and that ain't much. So basically Nashbar shines us on until the frame gets delivered or cancelled. Drop shipping is what less reputable online retailers use exclusively. It's also called "Just in time" shipping.

"Just in time" shipping means that the retailer doesn't actually have any inventory. When you order, it gets drop shipped from mfr/wholesaler warehousing. This method is a lot less reliable IMO.

At this point some orders appear to be on their way to completion, and some have been cancelled. So until more people actually get a frame, I'm still on the pessimistic side of the fence.

Believe me, I'm not hoping for failure, I'm rooting for success, and I'll be the first guy to say in this thread "Nice job Nashbar, you really came through" If most everybody gets a frame. I hope you are right and that you get your frame.

Hey people, I mention "drop shipping" a lot in this thread. so if you want clarification on what that means, read my reply to Buggyr333 a couple posts above.

In a nutshell drop shipping or "just in time" shipping are less reliable methods, and I explain why. BTW I am hoping people get their frames.

The cust rep I talked to said it was drop shipped and had no other info on origin, or delivery time. Obviously that conflicts with what you were told and that is pretty much in line with what I said earlier that Nashbar will shine us on because they have to, until delivery or cancellation.

I hope I'm wrong, and your rep is correct, because if they are shipping from Canfield, delivery times should be far less than from some international origin which is always Sloowwww.

I think Canfield is their main location (or it used to be but not sure)

Yeah they used to be great, but I think competition caused them to lose their edge. It's the same old story. Complacency creeps in and hungry newcomers gain ground.

I believe you're correct that Performance owns the name. Honestly I've had less trouble since Performance took over after the info theft debacle. Old Nashbar really dropped the ball by not notifying it's customers of the theft until far too late.

With the new regime, There are some minor things I miss, but because I'm a major "bang for buck" believer, I cover all bases when gear shopping and they're still in my loop, so for all my pessimism, I keep going back. Just not happy to be disappointed and left out this time.

When I ordered my ruckus from Nashbar last year it came from CSG. I guess they ran out and had to get it from GT. That may happen again.
Still loving my GT's!! find me on the "GT Bike Group" page on FB. I hardly ever hang out in here anymore.

Oh by the way, mine also has been paid in full, (as in they have taken the money from the account) so if that is consistent with them not charging until shipping, then mine is on it's way.

Not necessarily. You aren't getting the concept of drop shipping.

As I said earlier, Nashbar considers it "shipped" when they initiate a "drop ship".

What that means is, Nashbar charges you once they put your order into the hands of the "middleman" drop shipper. If the "middleman" doesn't actually have your frame, or loses it or it gets stolen, etc, then you don't get your frame. That is why people aren't hearing anything for weeks, and then without notice their order is cancelled. Nashbar is assuming that the inventory info of the "middleman" is accurate. IMO the inventory numbers of the "middleman" are less accurate. It doesn't mean that you won't get your frame, it just means it'll definitely take longer, and you are a bit less likely to get your frame.

That's why "drop shipping and "just in time" shipping aren't as reliable as Nashbar actually shipping you a product from one of their warehouses. When they ship you a product from their "in house" inventory, you get a tracking number because they know it's actually shipped.

There is no tracking when it drop ships, because Nashbar themselves have no clue as to whether or not it's actually going to ship. That's why people aren't getting any "real" info from Nashbar at this point.

If the plan was to drop ship all the GT sale frames, then most people probably will get frames, but in this thread people already got cancelled after weeks of no notice. Get how it works?

Well 2 weeks ago I ordered a Carbon Force Pro on their frame sale. As soon as I ordered it the stock showed that it was out of stock. So either I got the only one or the website was wrong when I ordered it. Anyway, last week I called and asked the status of it and I got the old drop ship line. I just figured it wasn't going to come so I actually ordered another frame I am going to build for my wife. Anyway, late on Friday night I get an email from Nashbar with a tracking number for my Force. It is supposed to be delivered today! I am pretty excited. I have a pile of parts waiting to assemble it.

That is awesome news! Thanks for posting.

Now maybe more people will post as they get their frame, and people waiting can get an idea on how long it'll take. Congrats, and happy building.

Curious: What mail carrier dropped it off? and how were you able to last minute figure when it was coming? is nashbar just holding out on the tracking info?

What's happening is that once the "middleman drop shipper" actually ships the frame, tracking gets sent to nashbar who emails it to the customer.

Well, this is what I've been talking about...

Nashbar calls it shipped, the "middle man drop shipper" drops the ball, Nashbar cancels, customer is AAARRRGGHH

Good old drop shipping gotta love it! NOT

Sorry about your frame, bud. I'm there too. Hope others are more fortunate in this Nashbar GT Frame Roulette...

    Hey congrats Pinoy! Happy building!

That really isn't a bad a time frame for drop shipping. Standard shipping from Nashbar states 7-10 days, even though it's usually sooner. It seems like the average "lead" time for these frames is around 2 weeks, and unfortunately, the time it takes to find out you're cancelled is about the same.

Still a crapshoot... Snake eyes or boxcars, what's it gonna be boys?

GTJorgito mentioned the frames might be coming from CSG in an earlier post. Looks like he was right on the money.

You were most likely invoiced, because Nashbar already charged you. They charged you when they initiated the drop ship. If the drop shipper cancels, then you get refunded.

Anybody that ordered one of these frames was charged by Nashbar, unless Nashbar knew or thought that the frame was out of stock before they sent the order to the drop shipper.

We've found out the drop shipper is CSG Cycling Sports Group, out of CT Anyone know what their rep is?

My Force came from somewhere in Illinois. Here are some pics of some of the parts going on it and my partial build. I ordered everything I need to finish it this morning. The shock bushings being the biggest PITA to get my hands on. It will be a 1x9 setup for lighter cross country. Should be a fun bike to throw around.

Good news here: My sanction arrived today! Looks like they may have shipped them all at once, I didn't order until the 23rd.
I didn't realize it would have a maxle rear end, looks like I'll be buying a new wheel too.

Edit: Found a conversion kit for my current hub, but I now realize that the frame didn't actually include a maxle- looks like they're running about $50 on ebay -more than I'd hoped to spend.

Awesome, I ordered mine on the 23rd as well. brings me hope that I may get mine soon. Did you receive any sort of tracking info? or did it just show up on your doorstep? and did you get an invoice in the mail?

Just got my buddy's frames and they came from CSG as well. Cannondale Sports Group, once Dorel acquired Cannondale they put all the big names like GT and Cannondale under one roof. My only issue with my delivery is that my buddy wanted a Zaskar elite in XS and an expert in S and he got both in XS. Probably because there were no Smalls left over. That doesn't help my friend so we are goona try and return it. If that's not possible, I'm thinking refund or maybe keep it for myself and build a light urban assault bike out of it. They do look nice though.
Still loving my GT's!! find me on the "GT Bike Group" page on FB. I hardly ever hang out in here anymore.

Oops, yes Cycling Sports Group not Cannondale Sports Group. But CSG is still owned by Dorel and the big home for GT and Cannondale.

    Hey Chan-
One guy said he's returning a frame on the thread in the best deals forum.somebody needs to call Nashbar & inquire about buying it.
    I thought about this:
If Nashbar didn't want to sell the frames, they wouldn't have put them up for sale.I know this deal got crazy, but maybe somebody might get a return item or something.

Well since nashbar ****ed me, If anyone gets a medium Force frame they end up not wanting, and are willing to sell. I'd be interested. otherwise I have a brand new 7.5x2" X-fusion 02 rear shock for sale, $100 shipped. Just shoot me a PM, it already has bushing top and bottom, you just need to order a set of 39.88x8mm for one end and you're good to go.

Zarr, I'm not flaming you or anyone else. You are right. Of course Nashbar wants to sell the frames. They don't want to fool the customer, but a drunk driver doesn't want to get a DUI, but actions may cause that to happen.

My issue is with the way they handle their customers. It always seems like poor execution or planning. Other vendors manage not sell goods they don't have, or list "open items" or can honestly inform their customers during an order process.

I called out Nashbar on their typical "handling" of the process. They need to verify available stock levels BEFORE the sale. Not everyone got their frames. Pretty much what I said would happen did to some people. I never said "nobody will get their frames". Not everyone got their frames or not everyone got the right frames.

Was I 100% right on everything I said? No. Was I pessimistic? Yeah, and for me and some others, with good reason.

People can play "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" If they want to. Not me. Yeah it was a great sale, Yeah Nashbar did deliver, and Yeah most people came away with a steal. You're right it did get crazy... But it didn't have to! That is pretty much my whole point!.

All that said, your idea about getting a return frame is a good one, and people who missed out, should make that call, and see if they can snag one. I will

    Chan,
I ordered the Force3 frame as well. I didn't get it. This deal turned out to be the luck of the draw. Not the best way to buy and sell. Not at all.But I gotta wonder how much was Nashbar's fault. If they had a long standing relationship with the vendor, they may have relied on that.I just don't know.and the reps we talk to prolly don't know either.I doubt we'll ever really know what happened.Good luck trying to get a frame.Someone said they did a deal like this last year.Maybe next year they will again...only this time a little more precisely done. That's about all all of us can say.somehow find a way to let it roll off if you don't get one.I know it's not easy, but smile and ride on.

Not that I am defending Nashbar, but electronic inventory control and ordering with limited stock can be tricky. Websites and HTTP communication is stateless so it is possible for two people to order the same item at the same time and get a positive response back from the server. Updating the database probably lags behind by a few seconds or minutes. So if stock is down to 1 it is luck of the draw which transaction gets registered first and will get the order. Personally I am batting 4 of 6 from Nashbar over the last couple of years. I really thought I was not going to get the carbon force, but did. However I ordered another force for my wife a couple of days later and didn't get it yet. That one I suspect is not coming :-(

It's not so much not getting the frame that i'm borthered with, its the fact that I called a few times to check on the status and each time I was lied to about it shipping. So now im sitting here with 2 forks and 2 shocks with no frames.

Anybody see that Mongoose Boot'r DH frame size small on Nashbar's site now?
It's been sitting there all day with 20% off of the (( price.Somebody needs to snap it up.
Mongoose Boot'r Team Frame - Mountain Bike Frames
...Now that I've done my part to help somebody score a frame...I don't feel so bad saying I got my Marathon9r & Women's Zaskar Expert frames.
It is true as a poster previously said that they didn't pack the boxes with anything but a piece of cardboard that was only occupying space...but personally at those prices they could have sent mine in toilet paper and I wouldn't have cared.
    ...Anyway...Good Luck everybody.

Well today I joined the ones that had my order canceled. I spoke to them twice and both times they said the frame was allocated to me. Then today I get a cancellation stating oos. I ordered a marathon 9r.

Put my force together today, Force's sure do run small, i was worried the XL would be too big for me (I usually run a large, sometimes a medium) but with a shortish (60mm) stem, it handles great. Jealous of anyone who got a sanction in their size though. that's what I really wanted. But in the long run, I'm just grateful to have gotten my frame. Maybe my luck will continue and next year there will be another frame sale and I will score a sanction then, third time's the charm. (I missed a sanction last year and got a ruckus instead)

If I had known that I would be riding what I ride know, I would have bought a Sanction in my size from last year too. But my Force 3.0 with it's upgrades have been holding on fine.

When I bought a frame last year from Nashbar, the order didn't change for a week and when I called they specifically told me that my frame was not instock and that my refund was already in motion; then an hour later my phone vibrates and tells me my package has been shipped?! I did not get a refund by I did receive the $32 Schwinn Tandem MTB frame in a few days.

Glad people got in a sweet deal, and I feel for those that were burnt... I guess you can't win them all.

    I picked up a Sanction 3.0.
    Thinking of putting a 29er 100 mil fork up front and a 29er wheel & turning it into a "96er franken-bike".

Performance bike or another authorized gt dealer would be your best bet.
