Modern equivalent of early 2000s GT XCR?

What would be the modern equivalent of the early 2000s XCR line? To be honest, I'm a little overwhelmed by GT's classifying MTBs into 6 categories. It's not just DH and XC anymore?

Considering jumping into the FS world and remember my friend's XCR being great back in the day.

I'm definitely not a downhill bomber, like to climb more than go down, but that's not to say I don't want the benefits of full suspension and don't like to have some fun going fast.

You could always try tracking down an old XCR... not to say the Helion is bad in any way, but could be a cheaper option to see how you like FS

I am just now revisiting GT after 15 years in between building up and riding differenct bikes and brands. Its also my first time on a 29er platform and a carbon frame...can't wait.
My old XCR 3000 was great in its day, but it did tend to bob and the rear felt loose at times, and the fork could have been better. Fast forward to these newer GT frames and the evolution of the I-drive and how they're using headset bearings in the pivots, newer tech and slacker geo....Wow! I would highly consider the Helion or Sensor for under 2k complete that are great bikes and at closeout over an older XCR.

Time to get busy on building up this new Zaskar frame...
