    GT Bravado LE SR

    hello all

picked this up yesterday, looking forward to building it up/updating it. from what i can tell, it's a 94 model that originally came with the front shock (but haven't verified that completely yet).

as it stands it's got deore all around,

    original rock shox mag 21:

    cr-mo frame:

i think this is all original (but haven't verified it yet):

this i'm not so sure about (isn't the cabling on these done differently in bikes of this period)?

Whats to do...it looks perfect to me... also its not Deore, its deore LX with soem XT, thats all good.

Now this is just me, but if you want to upgrade, then if this means going to all XT or XTR of simialr period, then fine (not that i'm a believer in the period correctness thing, just that is such a nice original bike), but if its to upgrade to all new stuff, parts/forks etc... then better to sell it on as is and get something else.
    but thats just my opinion

well, i'm not sure. i may keep it as is or--purist cover your eyes --i may do some updating. i'm mainly toying with the idea of updating the fork and going to a 650b wheelset. either way this thing is getting used. as soon as i can get some time the street tires are coming off.

i've actually been looking into all sorts of new bikes but i really don't like aluminum frames. this was the best steel frame i could get my hands on.

    Update 1

first round of changes to cover the basics. got rid of the street tires and swapped in some cheapo Kendas. these will do until i figure out if i want to go 650b or not. also got rid of the horrible plastic cages.

took the bike out this weekend and hit a few fire roads (gravel) and trails. the cheapo tires did well and i really like the feel of the bike.

must fix: stem and grips. the stem is too long (and maybe too low) and makes for uncomfortable positioning, the grips are horrible.

    hahahaha

i know, i haven't gotten to taking that off yet. i'm afraid it's going to bring along bits of paint with it (not good previous owner, not good )

    hello all

i haven't had much time to ride since i picked this up but i did do enough riding to know what i want to change on it.

i'll be looking into a new fork and wheelset. let the (re)search begin!
