Interesting. I also don't use a top cap and star nut. When I install the fork and stem, I use a long threaded rod with nuts and washers to set the tension, then tighten the stem to the steer tube. Kinda cool being able to look down the steer tube and see tire. I had a guy at mount snow in VT not let me on the lift with my bike because he told me my handlebars would surely fall off. Hahaha.

Anyone else seen the 2015 catalog? Xizang cancelled again? Maybe a 27.5?

I'm 30 minutes flight from Taiwan, I'd like to go check out the place.

Yeah but if you end up running a carbon steerer, you don't want to not have the plug in there...

So if Chris King has their head up their a$s about Zero Stack headsets, who's the next best?

    Cane?

I think the inset is zero stack....dunno its all too confusing, I like the semi integrated due to its ease of use, but the old style press in are just super simple.
But wait till you gett he frame to figure out what you need.

    Michael,
Unfortunately we don't make any integrated headsets. We like to control the outer bearing race tolerance and we can't do that with an integrated set up. That is a sweet bike though! Good luck.
    Thanks,

    Abraham

yeah I'd go with cane creek...i have a ritchey wcs seems to work pretty well...

and just to clarify - someone feel free to set me straight (as i'm too lazy to go research again) and I often get the last 2 mixed up - in know the zero stack and drop in names, but the semi/integrated bit i get wrong.

old style - headset is press fit into frame, with bearing outside the frame
zero stack - integrated - headset is press fit into frame, the bearing are inside the frame
drop in - semi integrated - the frame is machined to fit bearings, bearing race "drops into" frame then seals etc are placed outside the frame.
All the gear and no idea.

The size of this frame could not be any more perfect!! I'm in love. Here it is, compared to a 1997 18" Zaskar.

Some of these are "hold me over" parts (wheels, fork), some are not.

I'm also eyeing the atlas cranks. Hmmm. This is gonna be a fun pig bike!

    very nice!
I know of one other new modern 26" small GT Xizang
it arrived here at my place in Burlington Ontario then crossed Canada to BC with its new owner
needless to say it was very eye wateringly expensive and from ebay
currently waiting to be built up
so yes, there should be a Modern GT Xizang Registry started so we can see just how many of these imports made it over

    Got a 2000g tfal scale.

    2012 GT Xizang-img_20150330_183135.jpg

    here you go:
1997 18" Zaskar frame w/ water bottle bolts, hanger, seat bolt - 1767g
    2014 M 26" Xizang frame w/ water bottle bolts, hanger, stock seat clamp/bolt - 1823g
    2014 M 26" Xizang frame w/o water bottle bolts, stock seat clamp/bolt (frame+hanger only) - 1781g
    water bottle bolts x4 = 14g
    stock seat clamp/bolt = 28g

    28+14+1781 = 1823g

Certainly not the lightest Ti frame, but as you can see by my hardware choices (platform pedals, BMX stem and braced riser bars), I'm building a dirt pig, so I was just wanting the Ti for the durability (and I've wanted a Xizang since the 90s). :-)

    Cheers!!

Still waiting on a lot of parts :-( Basically building this thing like an old "mod8" trials bike from the 90s. The neon yellow is nice too, reminds me of the old magura hydraulic cantilever brakes and putting tar on my rims. Oh the noises!

Mock up. My oil slick stem needs some machining and Ti hardware. I found my old monkeylite SL risers. 128g! Might use them again. Should I worry about fatigue on 10+ year old carbon?

Machining on my Stranger BMX stem done.

    It's 6061-T6 CNC'd, and "Oil Slick" Annodized.

I had a good friend of mine do some weight reduction on the under side of it, as well as open it from 22.2 to 25.4mm. I'll use my old 128g Monkeylite SL bars, but I'm looking for some old Hellbent Ti bars.

I like how the look of the bike came out.

I used to have a late '90 Zaskar which I really loved until it was stolen out of my garage back in the late '90, then I replaced it with a Litespeed and later a Santa Cruz, and finally Specialized FSR Evo carbon (still have the last 3).Then I saw a brand new reissue GT Xizang frame, and I offered a stupid lowball price and....the frame is now mine...for half the price of the listed price...Looking to build it up with XTR, Chrisking, Rockshok, but I have built up my FSR Evo carbon in 2014, Cervelo R5 in 2015, so this build will be done in in late 2016 early 2017.

I ride mostly gravelroads on CX-bikes and have not had a mountainbike for some time. Most of the big offroad races in Norway prohibits the use of CX so I have been looking for a decent racerig for an old geezer. Next year I'm turning 60 and I hope to take part in a few events. Bought this new old stock 2014 Xizang for 1850 $ which I think is pretty good for this frame with OK equipment. The 72 degree headangle will take some time to get used to but so far I like it. I will mostly ride gravelroads and easy singletrack.

Yeah that seemed a bit wierd (72), and then the 26er gets 69 HA...super yuk (from steep to too slack).
All the gear and no idea.
