About time GT updated their web site. $2200 whopping bucks for frame. I asked a GT dealer here (Denver) and he no idea what I was asking. Or he acted so.

Not that it has any new info but a picture:

That's a bargain when you consider that the retail in 1991 when I bought mine was $2100.
Current high price of the Ti market I guess.

I totally agree, I'm not questioning the $. It's kind of frustrating that the dealer had no idea what I was talking about, and I see no chance of GT demo in Denver area in sight. I want to try it out for my own use (ss in Colorado) to make sure its chainstays aren't as noodlie as some other ti frames. It seems like half of the ti riders in ss forum has some type of too-compliant issues - some do and some don't. My old Zaskar has been great, but I want to grab this frame if it satisfies my needs. If it IS noodly, then it is not for me. Ti is not my must-have, it's just that I have a soft spot for GT.

But the dealer guy has no idea what I'm talking about, and there is no demo day in Denver area that I can find. And there is absolutely no ride review on this thing yet in this vast interweb. Amazing. I'm not that wealthy to just buy it for what it is. That's all.

IF I can get the money together AND I can find a 26in medium, then I'll probably buy site unseen (like my zaskar reissue... and my ARC and my Axis... infoact most bikes I buy I pay before I have ever seen it...)...

but its a pretty big IF on the cash and the size...

Neat. I rode a Xizang exclusively for 10 years till I cracked the frame and now im on a 29er. Still have the frame in the bike room as I'll probably get it fixed eventually. Don't know if I would be willing to spend $2200 on this frame tho.

but apparently (when I asked GT, due to retrobike picture), they say there will be both 26 and 29 for 2012, but what that means remains to be seen.

That means as was originally said....that the small sizes would be 26" so they would be geometrically correct and the larger sizes 29".

This is what I got from one of GT's Product Managers when asking about a 26" L:

"Not planned for MY12. Global demand is all in big wheels for size L".

Me too, but don't know how it could be with that reply unless it happens in 2013 and with 29er still growing it's not likely that product managers will ever wake up and see/take one of the bigger/wealthier market segments as serious.

So is this how you advertise and sell freely? Come to a public forum to advertise ad sell free of charge hoping that people will PM you to buy them? Yes we can all see by the pictures that it's a beautiful frame.

nope, just discovered that the store round the corner to the place I just mocved to is a GT dealer (although its full of crackenfails and bianchis), once my job starts and the millions start to roll in, I may see whats orderable... as the australian site is still saying both 29 and 26 ... but that may mean nothing at all...

still have yet to see one ;(

My guess is only that those dealers that polled their best customers and put them on pre-season orders will ever see them.

i think the thing is, nobody is prepared a big wad of case for a tawainese made gt xizang 29er.
In think (personal opinion) that a US made one would have sold better, and a 26inch there would be people (liek me) buying them, they totally missed the demographic.
2 months ago, i went on a mission, if i could have found a 26inch medium, i would have bought one, couldn't find one, even gt could tell me where to buy one, so no deal.

but then again the zaskar reissue was on sale in the end at wiggle. Its like the go to the effort to make this stuff, but then they don't make it easy to buy them, then they are sold on run out...

    Zaskar RE_issue

We could argue all day about what a "re-issue" means.. but in the case of the 2007 Zaskar frame set the term "Re-Issue" was... as far as I know ..defined by

Source = Built in the USA at SAPA. While not Dyer Road, nor Segerstrom, nor Gothard SAPA did in fact build Zaskar frames prior to the 2001 event.

Tube profiles = identical to the original save the head tube

    Dropouts = identical to original

Decals = same style and material

IMHO to build an exact replica ( which is how I might term it, as opposed to a re-issue ) is to engage in deception that actually dilutes the market for the true originals... witness the massive furor caused by Schwinn making Replica Black Phantoms.

I built this up just in time for Dirt Rag Magazine's Dirt Fest. It caused quite a stir with those that remember the Xizang of old. I always dreamed of owning a Xizang, and now have one of my very own. Being an employee of Cycling Sports Group (GT), I see a lot of great bikes, but you tend carry on with your day without really taking a second look. That all changed when the Xizang arrived. I have to say that I was like a kid on Christmas morning when I opened the box and found the Xizang inside... The welds are incredible, the attention to detail is top notch. Pictures (mine included) do not do this frame justice.

I was bound and determined to give this bike a proper shakedown at the Dirt Rag Dirt Fest so I set to building this bike. Some parts were new, some were reused, but everything went together flawlessly. I put in over 85 miles on this bike in three days on the Alligrippis trails of PA and I have to say the ride is fantastic. Total weight is 23.07 for an XL 29r as built with XX, ZTR Arch/Hope Pro 2 Evos with Aspens, and steering/seatpost components courtesy of Loaded Precision. All said it's about a pound heavier than my Zaskar Carbon 29r, but it's well worth the slight penalty. The frame material, along with flattened chainstays makes for a very confidence inspiring ride. It loves to go fast and it feels very controllable and planted while doing so.

Just so everyone is aware, we are only importing M-XL into the US market in 29r.

I raced mine to second in cat 1 Sunday.

The bike returns every action you hand to it 2 fold.

    The frame in alive.

Wheel size is certainly personal preference. I'm quite tall and feel much more at home on a 29r than I ever did on a 26". We sell the 26" variant in markets that still request it. Not everyone needs/wants a 29r. That being said, expect a fantastic ride from the 26r as well.

If you think this 2012 Xizang is nice wait until you check out that 2013 Edge Ti road bike. Take it from a guy that has both the original Xizang and Edge Ti...that is one nice looking bike. Great ride review also. Me think this goes to the top of my list as my next "new" bike.

SO looking at all the 2013 stuff going on, does that mean that the xizang will be around next year (and maybe i can find a 26 if i have any $$ left)...?

and I've been thinking of a road bike, always wanted a kestrel, but that edge is mighty tempting...
